Which surrounds to match with Vandersteen

Gentlemen I need your help. I currently have a set of Vandersteen 3A sigs for the front L&R plus a VCC-1 for the center. I just picked up a new Onkyo 818 to use as a preamp for my Parasound amp. I am looking for a set of surround speakers. At first I was thinking of going to audiogon and pickup a used pair of 2CE from Vandersteen for the rears and they could double for 4 channel stereo. But then I keep reading how some nice dipole rear surrounds really make the 5.1 system rock better. The Vandersteen 3A's really do rock for my music, so I am asking all of you what to do. I don't mind buying used and really would like to keep it under 1k for the rear set. What should I get?

I had a complete Vandy system and I had the VSM-1 rears. Seamless matchup. Easy to hang too. The bracket is already attached to the back of the speaker. If your looking for a center either the VCC-2 or 5. Vandys make a great HT setup.smile.gif

I have a VCC-1 for a center already, it actually does very well. The VSM-1 need to be hung? I would rather not hang anything on the wall. I have some stands I can use.

I suggest that you consider the KEF iQ70 or iQ30 speakers.

I also have Vandersteen 3A speakers, and have quite a bit of experience with the KEF iQ line. I think they will be good for your application, and the prices are quite reasonable at the KEF Direct website.

The floor standing Vandersteen 1C's are also at the same price as the VSM's brand new.smile.gif

They don't have to be hung, but they are designed to be in proximity with the wall. I used mine on stands for years.

+1 on the VSM for sourounds. One of the best sounding soround speaker I have ever herd, disappears onto the room. Not sure why you would want dipoles there is not any benifet except for sounding muddyer. Once a speaker is imaging correct you should not be able to tell the speaker is there. I do not know of any other speaker voiced to match the 3a especally in a soround speaker, most sourounds are not near the quality of the VSM driver.

I'm going to have to visit my local Vandersteen retailer to see what they have for me to borrow and audition. For the price of some new VSM, I can get a set of used 2CE instead. Thanks for all the replies, I need to so my speaker guy!! smile.gif
