55GT50 or 60GT50?

So I am planning on turning the loft of my cape cod into a home theater area. Right now I am planning on getting some Klipsch Tower Speakers with a center channel and subwoofer.

My delimma is where my sectional currently is placed, I would be sitting about 13 feet from the television. I can move the couch closer and get about 9 feet from where the television is going to be. I guess now I just don't know if 55 inch is going to be too small and should I go with the 60 inch. I believe I am going to go with the GT50 and do plan on getting it calibrated. Also should I move my couch closer?

55" is way too small. 65" would be best but if that's not in your budget I highly recommend 60".

I sit about 8-9 ft from my 60GT50 and I think that a 65" would look even better (they shrink). I did have the 55VT50 and it was missing the "awe" that a larger screen provides.

yea afraid the 65 is a little outside my budget.....I'm pushing it with the 60 inch GT....Guess I will go 60 inch and hopefully wont be dissapointed.

I mean I could afford a Sharp 70 inch LED lol....but I'm pretty sure that would be a downgrade

Right.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the 60GT50. .

Since you plan on getting the display calibrated is there any reason why you can't get an ST50 instead and go with the larger 65" screen size? Or do you need the few extra features that the GT50 provides bad enough to settle for a smaller screen size? Or did you plan to get your THX modes calibrated?

I would go with the 60st50 but I have to go through best buy since I'm using a best buy credit card. I will check the price of the 65st50, but am sure it will be out of my price range.

I am not sure what is the current prices are at Best Buy. Go to the store and they will match Amazons prices on the ST/GT for you and they have 36 months no interest for any TV over $899 if you use your best buy card. Just pay it way before the 36 months and keep within your budget. Good luck

Ended up going with a 55st50....re-arranged room and it is a win/win because we have more space. Question, calibrating it will it make it brighter? I haven't set it up yet. Just wondering.

Here is a link to the ST calibration that I found:

You can find other calibrations on this forum too.

Just bought the 60GT50. Couldn't be happier.. I believe you can never get too big a TV, especially when it's plasma. I have a my 60" mounted over a fireplace, andgled down. I wish I could go 65" but the mantel is in the way. I even went "phantom center" so I didn't have to sacrifice any tv space for the center channel. I sit about 16' from the tv.

I'm using the THX setting, and it's phenominal for movies, but not sure about sports..

Well, you have had some time... how are the sports? lol Have you watched any good HD football on this thing yet?

I don't think you can go too big. Love my 60" GT50.
