i dont know much about the vid processors, doesnt really matter as i prolly wont pass vid through the avr anyway,But ive got speakers that handle 300 watts on the front channels,so a good clean powerful elite avr makes sense to me...i highly doubt one from 3 yrs later is going to sound better..........

The Pioneer VSX-59TXI is a non-HDMI AVR and it's simply unrealistic to expect more recent HDMI AVRs can be bought at a 1/10 of MSRP on the S/H market.
I'd look seriously at the Denon AVR-3808, same vintage (out in 2007, not 2008) as the Pio Elite VSX-94TXH, MSRP, specs and benchmarks. The Denon has Audyssey MultEQ XT which is generally felt to be better than Pioneer's MCACC as its EQ includes lower freq.

Both are about the same weight. If possible try to look up official website not Amazon's shipping weight. People sometimes talk in extremes: weight is not important at all or weight is everything. The truth is somewhere in between. Once you get above the feather weight category you're on safer grounds and there's no need to be obsessed with 60lb AVR either.post #33 of 379/1/12 at 10:39pmpost #34 of 379/2/12 at 12:18am- afrogt

post #35 of 379/2/12 at 5:52amkilian... I hear ya,I just posted that one up as a example of ultra high end stuff being dirt cheap today,I still feel like using a avr like that and using optical inputs to the avr and running hdmi direct to the tv from sources would be fine, still work with 3d. Ive never understood the need for video processors or upconvertions in a avr,if you have a good modern tv then all this is handled anyway, plus any good display will at least 4 hdmi inputs, whats a couple extra optical cables to run to the avr. That said im not after some mega 60 lb beast, anything over 30 lbs will suffice,at least you know you have a little beefy amps in something like that.
Im looking at a Denon AVR-3808 that a member here is selling and the elite 94. noit sure what I want to run with. they were both made around the same 2007 time range, both run around 500 these days. The display I bought recently is a nice huge 3d tv,but i dont mind running the hdmi to the tv direct for that source,no biggie.post #37 of 379/9/12 at 9:49pm- lespurgeon
