What are your listening preference:
Music, movies, both? Type of music and/or movies? Volume requirements? Will you have a sub?

A few good options... assuming you mean a pair of speakers <$250...

Energy RC-10 - $220 @ Vanns
Pioneer FS52 - $240 @ Tiger Direct
Cambridge Audio S30 - $220, but if you don't mind open box, check AVHiFi for a discounted pair (and search for their 10% off coupon code)

I will have a sub. Volume high sometimes and medium most of the time. I listen to rock, experimental rock, and folk. And only music.

As alphaiii mentioned, you should really consider the RC-10's from Vann's. That is clearance pricing on a line of speakers that was 2 or 3 times that much once upon a time. I have energy RC-30's and they are a great sounding speaker. Check out the official energy thread for a pile of opinions etc...

+1 on the RC-10's, great value for that price. They will rock an 11x12 room.

Another vote for the RC-10's. I purchased a pair a couple of months ago to use in my main setup, and I like them so much that I bought another pair for the bedroom. The are very hard to beat for the price.
