Sony HMZ-T2 Personal 3D Viewer HMD Dedicated Thread - Page 9

Well, you can say whatever you like. I was well aware of the resolution limitation. I had tried the T1 and noticed the 'pixel grid' on it . I could live with it on the T1 as I could have on the T2 if not for the comfort issues. But it was there. Either you have a magical T2 that has a better display than the T1, or you have simply gotten used to the lower resolution and do not notice it. If so, that's brilliant. But there's no need to be antagonistic and claim I'm lying.

In any event, I'm out. My impressions are here if people are interested. I have qualified them as much as I think necessary but I'm not going to gloss over the flaws I saw just because I had comfort issues. People can judge the validity of my impressions (and yours) themselves when they try the unit and read other impressions.

Its usable no problem using it for 4hours or more.

My personal experience with the T1 was that I hated it the first couple of days I owned it. It was blurry, the headphones sucked, the resolution was noticeably lacking, and it was uncomfortable. After modding it, somehow I love it now.

I noticed that most who were unhappy with it either didn't have it for very long or didn't want to mod it. No problem with that. It just isn't a simple plug and play device. Maybe the T2 has a little more instant gratification but I'm pretty sure it will still require some patience and adjustment.

For those who can overcome all of that, I believe you will have picture quality in many respects that is unmatched by any other display. That is why I was willing to endure the growing pains.

Its close to $1k globally, thats not something I'd toy with for an hour then return.
I'll be lending mine to the rest of my family to enjoy aswell.
It is a device you have to keep for long and play with to get used to and enjoy.

Was really sceptical of getting a T2 of how i dint fancy the first one , had 2 T2s on preorder but got cold feets after remembering how front heavy it was, and the picture structure was so visible on it ruining the joy of a big screen effect.

But after reading the positive report of blazin3D i thought hek im gnna order one again seeing it was instock.and dont regret that at all and planning a second T2 as this is stunning.

the grid 'd be visible in absolute white only - i can notice that in emagin hence it's in the box gathering dust while headplay going great sans 3D mad.gif

Hello Bravia. smile.gif

I have read your post where you said that the screen is very sharp and has no blurry edges.

I got my hmz-t2 a couple of days ago, and I was planning on using it for watching videos, playing games & using at as a regular PC screen.

But I can't get the edges to be sharp, and I can't read text very good at all when it is on the sides of the screen.

I have very good eyes, so the problem is not my eyes. But maybe there is some position I can have it in, so I can read everything on the screens CLEARLY.

Can you tell us exactly how you have your hmz-t2 positioned, and if you really can read small text everywhere on the screen, up, down, left, right, middle, etc... both when you are using both your eyes, and one eye at the time (having one eye closed and still be able to se everything 100% clear).

I hope I made myself clear in this post.

I would greatly appreciate a fast answer with great tips, since this is very important for me that the whole screen is 100% in focus.

Thanks! smile.gif

So soon, mine didn't have an estimated ship date but I expect november.
Don't forget to tell us your experience.

For some reason I never liked the gamma signature of Xbox, I found it dark heavy and bright.

I purchased the T2 from the local Sony Centre Shop in Melbourne, Australia for $999 last Friday. They had others in stock.
Having the T1 already I was aware of and anticipated the improvements of this new model.

It should be mentioned that I wear glasses and for others also using glasses Sony suggests that, for a truly overall sharp image, reading glasses might not be suitable, so you need to use your mid to long range glasses with this display, ( It's possible that bi-focals may also cause some problems, but I can't confirm that)
Also I only use the unit for viewing both 2D and 3D Movies, so I can't comment on the video quality and performance with Games.

As stated elsewhere on this thread, the picture is now much sharper and clearer around the edges,( possibly repositioned or improved lenses?) although it takes a lot of fiddling and adjusting to find the sweet spot, but when you do it's sensational.
Anybody having trouble seeing the whole picture in focus needs to try altering the eye adjustments and head positioning until you find that elusive sweet, sweet spot.
The T2 appears to be much more sensitive to head positioning than the T1.
As already stated, the unit is much lighter.

Like the T1 the pixels are still visible, but unless you really concentrate on them they really don't intrude or detract from the presentation. (a few of my friends said they didn't see or notice them at all)
Some of the new features are hidden away in the menu (such as the 24P True Cinema and overscan among others) so you need to do a thorough search to find them all.

I am very fussy with my picture settings, so I use custom and do my own personal adjustments. ( Usually from Movie to Movie)
It is disappointing that there is no Color adjuster or Tint control available on either model. (Maybe T3?)
All the other controls are adequate.

The earbuds supplied look cheap and nasty so I'm not using them.
I tried my full size, over the head, Sennheiser phones, but was not satisfied with the amount of volume available from the unit. (There was just enough, but I had the volume almost up to the limit, so it's possible some distortion may have been present - It should also be mentioned that my hearing is not quite what it used to be)
I connected the Sennheiser phones to my Pioneer Receiver, which in turn is permanently connected to my Panasonic 3D Blu-ray, and the result was stupendous.
The full size phones sit quite comfortably on the outside of theT2.

So the few negatives I've already mentioned, but the plusses are many.

The T1 and the T2 give you the most incredible 2D and 3D viewing experience.
Up until now my 3D viewing has been exclusively on my 58" Panasonic VT20A, which gives an excellent 3D image, but that has now been surpassed by the T2.
I ran the new "Lawrence of Arabia" Blu-ray and was blown away by the 2D image quality. It was like sitting in a 70mm Cinema.

Don't be put off by the fact that it's 720p.
The OLED display screens are only 4" so the difference between 720p v 1080p is possibly negligible at this size.
The resolution looks every bit as good as my 1080p Plasma.

By the way, the blacks are among the best I've seen. (especially the screen surrounds)
When there is a fade out in the movie, the viewer is left in complete darkness.

The image is stunning in it's detail and sharpness.
Easily the best 3D experience available at this time.

Yes I love my T1 and T2, the only problem is I don't get to enjoy the company of my Wife while watching Movies anymore. ;-)

Doug.

I think it's more like 0.7" per panel. It's incredible how they squeezed 1278x720 pixel into a 0.7" OLED panel.
ckong,
I thought I read about the 4" panels somewhere, but you are right about the size. So thanks for correcting me on that.
As you say, it's truly incredible how they managed it.

Mickice,
Knowing that Sony shops were not renowned for giving discounts, I thought no harm if I asked, which I did and was happy when the sales guy dropped $50 off the price.
Not a huge discount, but at least it paid for the freeway toll, petrol and a nice pub lunch for me and the missus. (maybe I should have used it on a couple more 3D Blu-ray discs - JBs was opposite the Sony shop)

Sweet, mine said $1,049 xD so that makes sense.
Still confused why they haven't called me yet, I have a $100 preorder.
Will visit them tomorrow.

What model of Sennheiser headphones are you using? It's very possible that T2 doesn't have enough power to drive them well (its impedance is only 16 Ohm). I was curious about the quality of the virtual surround offered, as i don't have a receiver with headphone out.

If you are having trouble driving your headphones you can get a small headphone amplifier.
