Looking for camcorder for youtube

I can't really afford a 1080p $500-700 camera, I was hoping people could
tell me what some of the best 720p cameras were so I can get one
of those instead.

I only make about 200-100 a month off my videos.

Problem is where I live, the lighting is poor and the noise shows something awful in the videos.

I picked up a samsung st76 as it is f2.5 which is better than the kodak zi8 I used to have.

Ideas?

I have a canon g10 which I would consider selling if I could get a srl type camera
that does good 1080 video for 5-600.

The Samsung HMX-W200 ($95.99) has a very good image and does well in low light:

You will have to put on a tripod/there is no stabilization.

Hi assemblerex - if all you need is 720p, the simplest upgrade path for you would be to sell your Powershot G10 and get a $380 G12. Flip out LCD, RAW stills with the CHDK hack. You already know how to use it as a still camera, and you won't have much of a learning curve.

If you want full 1080/24p for a little less money, you can get the $363 Canon SX40. Again, flip out LCD and RAW stills with the CHDK hack.

I don't know whether it's important to you, but neither of these cameras have an external mic input. For that, you would have to change brands to Panasonic or get a camcorder.

The Panasonic point and shoot "bridge" camera in this price range looks a lot like the Canon SX40, but it has an external mic jack, shoots RAW stills without a hack, has unlimited video clip recording time and shoots 1080/60p instead of 24p. The faster frame rate makes action less "jerky" and also allows you to create smoother slow motion. The camera is the $450 Panasonic FZ150. It costs a little more, but I have one of these cameras and I love it.

I think I will sell me G10 (I might get 200 or more as I have the box and lenses)
and buy a T3i as they are clearance now... It's a lot of money for me atm, I will see if I can get
a panasonic g1 with the hacks used or the canon...

Glad I could help. Don't know if it matters to you, but you should know that the T3i has a 12 minute continuous video clip length limit -- and its autofocus and viewfinder stop working in video mode.

And did you mean a used Panasonic G2? The G2 is video capable, shoots essentially unlimited continuous video and is hackable, while the older Panasonic G1 doesn't shoot video.

I am hoping I could find something used somewhere.

It would have to be hacked which makes it hard to find on ebay...

There is no such thing as camcorder for YouTube. If anything, you want one with progressive recording, because deinterlacing takes time and must be done correctly.

Hacking (and unhacking) GH cameras is not hard. I suggest you just buy one used and hack it yourself. I have both cameras (GH1 and GH2), and they produce terrific video.

xfws - yes, the G3 is hackable (see this thread), but it still has no manual control in video mode and no mic input. These omissions disqualify it as a serious video camera, in my view.
