Movies look different on my HDTV when played from laptop compared to PS3

Hey guys,

This is my first post at AVS forum and i hope i am posting in the right section.

I own an LG lw5600 LED tv. I played the same movie on both my ps3 and my laptop that are connected to the tv. The movie seemed a lot clearer and smoother when it was being played on the ps3. Both my laptop and the ps3 are connected to the tv through hdmi. Here are the specs for my laptop:

Lenovo Ideapad y570
Intel core i7-2670QM (2.2 GHz)
8 GB DDR5 Ram
1 GB DDR3 video memory (NVIDIA GeForce GT 555M)

My question is, how can i get the same quality video from my laptop?

Quality is dependent on the video chipset which surely isn't as good as a dedicated DVR like device.
I have played back recordings made from a DVR from my Tower and the quality loss is very apparent.

Is there a way to improve the quality. One thing i noticed about the LW5600 is that if you label your HDMI input to PC, it takes away some options under the video settings of the tv and also reduces picture quality. So instead of labeling my laptop's HDMI connection as "PC" i just leave it blank and it works better but its still not as good as the picture quality from the PS3.

Other than getting another PC, not that I know of.

Not unusual. Many manufactures will 'gray out' color & tint settings since PC's don't require those. But, there isn't a drop in quality, I would bet you have some so called "enhancements" left on which should be off in TV mode that is fooling your eyes. Edge and contrast for starters.

What program are you playing the movie witth on the PC?
What resolution and frame rate are you sending the movie to the TV using the PC?
What format it the movie recorded in DVD, BlueRay, or 3D blueray?
What resolution is your PC desktop set to?
