Spent all my money on the receiver, any suggestions on keeping it cool
High and low, I drilled a bunch of ventilation holes into the back of the entertainment credenza. By going both high and low, doing so improves convection air flow and when driving the unit particularly hard, to improve air flow further, I open the cabinet door a few inches during movie viewing.
How much free-air clearance do the L/R sides and top cover have?
You should have at least 4-6"...
Anything less can impact the AVR's reliability..
Onkyo AVRs run hot due to their high-biased amplifiers.
Don't buy that one. Try the com cool cooling station with dual 120mm fans. Can be found on amazon. Will cost more than the wanted. Better airflow and reliability than the above mentioned. Or look through the 3009 thread for some cheaper and/or better options.
