Best and cheapest SACD Player?

I have been thinking about buying an SACD player and noticed that nearly all Sony BD players also play SACD. Are these good? Is there a really good SACD player that is also cheap?

Perhaps I should have specified what I meant by cheap. I am looking to spend no more than $150.

If your AVR is able to decode DSD sent over hdmi, any hdmi capable sacd player should do. Check the manual.

Most Sony DVD and BD players support sacd, even the super cheap ones. Also check out the Pioneer DV-610AV. It's $100-120, plays sacd and DVD-audio, and has controls on the front panel so it's possible to navigate without the remote if you just want to play music without messing with the remote or tv screen. Downside is that doesn't play blu ray, but if you can spare the extra hdmi port, you can get the Pio and a good BD player for significantly less than the cost of the Oppo. Dont get me wrong, the Oppo is awesome, but $500 is a steep cost of entry, considering how good bluray and DVD playback is from a much less expensive Sony or panasonic bd player.

Your avr does not need to decode DSD. A sony can send 176 khz pcm to the reciever.

Try to find"It can be done!" a Oppo BD83- you will love it and not need to buy another player for a long time!

If your receiver can handle DSD or PCM over HDMI, then the Sony is fine for SACD. If your receiver can only support analog then get an Oppo.

I would also recommend Oppo, but in your price range, search eBay and look for used Denon/Sony universals.

A used Denon DVD-2900 was pretty durn good on SACD (I sold mine a ways ago), and probably be sub-$200. Also had a Sony DVP-NS900V - decent as well too, with SACD.

If you can stretch it, a used Sony ES SACD (or DVD) player would fit the ticket, but you're getting awfully close to a new Oppo.

Onkyo DV-SP1000, built like a tank. An excellent SACD player. I own it along with an OPPO BDP-95.

The OPPO is better but not by much.

This Onkyo is well built and spec'd out is you can find one.

If you can find a used one look for a sony scd-ce595 Its not hdmi but its analog 5.1. I found one for $20 at gw. I see a couple on ebay for around $75.00. Also check on CL. GL !
