. In fact, I think it is the best show running on a Big 4 network these days. Nevertheless, his central thesis that the show is better than the BBC's Sherlock
left me shaking my head. Sherlock
is iconic television, which honors the tropes of the master, Arthur Conan Doyle, while putting modern and often funny twists on the master's originals. Elementary
takes more liberties with the Doyle stories. As the author of the linked piece observes, this gives the writers of the US show more latitude in the way they tell their tales but robs us of the pleasure of the sly but funny way Sherlock
updates Doyle's originals. Going to watch the first episode of the new season of Sherlock
tonight and can hardly wait! What the hell, though, both shows are terrific and I'm grateful.
