The earring story reminded me of the gold watch monologue from Pulp Fiction.

I'm glad they didn't go overboard with the "evil santa" theme last night and pushed a lot of big plot developments instead.

I wasn't expecting much based on the previews of the Santa episode. I was wrong to think that. Another great episode! I thought Santa had some great one-liners, especially Santa #1 when he had the couple tied up.

It will be interesting to see how the remainder of the season shakes out. I wonder if all the characters are doomed like they were in season 1?

I am really trying to like this season...but I just can't seem to get into it like I did last year. Last season we had a reason for all the craziness (the haunted house and murder)...but there does not really seem to be anything to tie all this stuff together this year. You have a possible alien, a demon possessed nun, a crazy Nazi doctor, a serial killer psychiatrist...I can go on and on.

Then you have all the over the top sexual stuff which, to be honest, we really do not need. It is almost like FX is being blatantly naughty because they can. I don't mind a little bit of sexuality and "on the edge" stuff...but don't shove it down my throat every week. How many times do I really need to see someone's butt?

Don't get me wrong...I like the show and am watching every week...but I was just expecting more but seem to be getting a very whacked out horror show with no real direction. I am hoping next season will be a bit more focused.

I really don't disagree with your assessment, but I think its worth waiting to see how the writers tie the various elements of the story together (assuming they do) - and there are enough episodes left to do so. Last season was much more deliberate in its pacing, and this season is (I think) intentionally jarring by comparison. In spite of the change in style, we've still been given quite a bit of knowledge of the primary characters and their stories. Given that they really didn't tie up the story last season until late in the season, it's only fair to wait and see if they do the same this year - I really hope so! wink.gif

I'm having problems with this season too. Everything-but-the-kitchen-sink torture porn- when in doubt, throw in another twisted character and hope everything can mesh.They have a certain bent sense of humor about all the carnage, but it's not enough. I'll continue to watch, but I gave up on Glee and I suspect I won't be very patient next year with this opus.

I think last year was a bit more coherent, and this season has been a righteous mess, but I'm enjoying it. Perhaps next year they'll manage to be even more demented. tongue.gif

It's not really horror, it's camp, but can you even do horror on TV? Really? I remember some truly chilling 'Twilight Zone' and 'Outer Limits' episodes, but they derived their scares and chills from clever, suspenseful storytelling. Maybe the modern reliance on shock and gore has desensitized us. It does seem like truly suspenseful horror on television is part of a quaint by-gone era.

The 'Walking Dead' has some truly horrific scenes but they derive more from character-driven conflicts than all that impressive gore - that stuff is really just part of the background.

Correct. People may forget there are all types of horror. Wonder what type they will go with on season 3?
We have had Aliens, Mutants, Nazi evil Scientist, Demonic possessions, Lunacy, Slasher. All that alone in season 2.
The used up a lot this season.
Season 3 lets go Supernatural. Vampires, Zombies/Mummies and Werewolf?

Not just you. I'm into this season much more than the first. Edgier and pushes the envelope (for TV). Props to both Lange and Cromwell for their roles. I watched the Xmas episode right after watching the SILENT NIGHT remake for a night of holiday cheer!

Agree with your point, I expect next season to be a different flavor, too. I don't think this season has been all-of-a-part in the way that season one was, but them's the breaks.

One thing about your ideas for season 3, IIRC the show's creator (sorry, forget his name) stated that the one thing we'll never see on AHS is vampires - he says they are just too overexposed (pun?).

The Bloody Face story is now my favorite aspect of the show. All parts of it. I really don't care about Lange and the machinations of possessed and/or corrupt Catholic hierarchy now. It all seems to exist for one moment of irony when the inmates will literally be running the asylum; as one by one all the priests and nuns will be committed.

Arden and the Aliens is now just so ridiculous and out of place that I find that amusingly entertaining. Crazy, crazy stuff.
