Trying to fix the "Cannot start. The correct hard disk drive cannot be found" error myself and...

Hey there. Last night I was playing the latest God of War Saga and was playing through the digital copy of Chains of Olympus when suddenly, my game froze! Okay no big deal, just turn it off and turn it back on right? I turn it on, start to browse the XMB, and it freezes again! I leave it alone to go to sleep, wake up this morning, turn it on, it says the correct hard disk drive cannot be found.

I do some research on this board and other tech help forums. One of them says to simply unplug and plug it back in. I try that, doesn't fix it.

I try restarting it and booting it up in safe mode, gives me the same "cannot find blah blah" message. Whatever.

Alrite, on to the third and final step before determining 100% that my PS3 and/or its HDD is completely and utterly ****ed, I turn it completely off. Remove all power, A/V, and USB cords from it. I look up a video on removing the PS3 HDD so I can make sure I do it as safely and carefully as possible, I remove the cover, and the 60GB HDD (I have an older BC model, btw), clean it off all the dust and grime with an ear swab dipped lightly in isopropyl alcohol, put it back in, and turn on the PS3.

Now it just boots up to a black screen?! WTF?!

Idk how I could have possilbly "ruined" my PS3 by simply taking out the hard drive, dusting it off, and putting it back in, but Lord Almighty, I'm worried I just might have!

Any comments, help, or suggestions are welcomed.

Try another HDD if you've got one around, or a kind friend. You could also try reformatting it using a PC. Hopefully, it's just a bad/corrupted HDD that just needs to be fixed or replaced.
