Your best bet is to first try the dealer your family members purchased the remote from and see if they will give it to you. Dealers are allowed to give the software to the end user. Another try would be to get a copy of the receipt to show it was purchased from an authorized dealer and see if URC will give it to you. It is not available for download from any legitimate source.

Is it really true that dealers are permitted to provide the software to customers? My dealer says his contract with URC prohibits him from providing me a copy.

URC's policy is to make the software available to the dealers. It is the discretion of dealer whether or not to provide the software to the end user. There used to be a sticky on remotecentral from a URC rep, but it was unstuck and I'm not searching for it.

That is supposedly URC's policy (dealers have discretion). I have checked with numerous dealers, including my own; none of them are willing to make it available even in connection with a purchase of several remotes + programming. Most frequent response is "cannot make it available" without any additional detail as to whether they are prohibited from doing so or they simply choose, as part of their business model, not do so.

they are choosing not to... they are allowed to do it... just don't expect to be able to contact urc directly for tech support, because that won't happen...

a good and trusted vendor is surf remote...
