Please help... Sharp 80LE632u or a 70in set?

I went from a 52 inch Sharp to a 70 inch Sharp, and it seemed HUGE - for about 2 months. After that I've been kicking myself for not getting a 80 incher, lol

For such an expensive TV, I'm not sure that the 80" Sharp justifies its price...the picture quality and lack of 3D compatibility on the 80" make a similar 70" set the better value in my opinion. Compare prices to determine whether the 80le632u is worthwhile.

As far as "guts" (video processor etc.) go They're basically the same set except for screen size and backlighting. If I remember correctly the 80 is full array backlit but without local dimming while the 70 is edge lit.

Yes, and the 70" 632 was replaced for the 2012 model year by the 640/6400 (latter being Costco models) which is edge lit. The 70" 632 also had a slight dimness in the corners usually only visible on bright white or solid color pics, which doesn't occur on the 640. There were a goodly number of 632's unsold last spring but they aren't widely available any more.

Of all the new models of Sharp in the last 2 years the 632 80" has the least amount of issues , read the 80" 632 thread & you will see that issues all most a non-starter on the 632 Everyone is a Happy Camper
I have a 632 & the PQ is excellent , back levels stunning . The edge lighted model suffer from clouding , there are No reports of clouding on a 80" 632
the 70" 632 has corner clouding & dim issues

I M O the 2011 70" models all were a better display than the edge lighted 2012 model across the board better ....
the 80" 632 is the best Sharp display in the last two model years of 2011 & 2012

I would agree, go as big as you can. I was recently looking at moving from a projector with 108 inch screen down to an 80 inch Sharp. Wanted to have more flexibility with light levels etc. In the end the 80 inch looked tiny. Go for 80, imho.

IMO Sharp has pushed Edge Lit over Full Array strictly because Edge Lit gives them a higher profit margin. The original 3D 70" was the 70LE735 (Full Array) which I saw advertised in early 2011 for under $2,000. Now Sharp is pushing the 70LE847 (Edge Lit) for around $2300 on sale. If you can still find a 735 it will sell for around $3500 (Fry's Electronics, September 2012). Why the price difference? Edge Lit vs Full Array. It cost Sharp more to manufacture the Full Array 735 making it difficult to be competitive with the other Edge Lit offerings from Sony, Samsung etc. As Fastslappy mentioned, theoretically Full Array should produce a more uniformly lit screen and be less prone to ghosting then Edge Lit. I have not heard before that the Full Array732 suffered from ghosting. I wish I would have bought a 735 18 months ago.
