I was told the YSP-4300 has been "discontinued" (huh?) and they could no longer get it. My order was canceled during the call.

I ended up just ordering one from Crutchfield for $1799 (free shipping no tax at least).

I really didn't want to pay that much, but at least Crutchfield has an outstanding reputation.
When I ordered my Yamaha YSP 4300 a little less than a month ago from Interstate Music I placed the order one day and next day UPS was knocking on my door in NY with a huge package. I paid 1199.99 plus 70.00 shipping. I guess I lucked out

Hi all... pretty new to this forum (which is great) and new to audio/video....

Couple questions - Would it be okay to hook up a transport only blu ray player to the 4300? I believe it has the decoding ability so should be okay....Also has anyone been able to get their hands on a silver 4300 in the UK?

Due to receive my YSP 3300 in a couple of weeks time...

In addition, i noticed that most of you in this thread are talking about samsung tv's.....anybody with experience of Sony HX 750 tellies ??
Would appreciate your thoughts, comments & reassurances, as I am getting this unit flown in from the US !!!eek.gif

Also, any thoughts as to how these units sound wall-mounted vs table top?

Thanks much.

I have asked this before so forgive the repeat... Does anyone have the 3300 or 4300 wall mounted?

Does anyone know how the YSP 4300 compares to the Definitive Technology SoloCinema XTR? I know the best way is to hear them to compare but has anyone done that yet?

For what it is worth, my difficulties with the sub appear to have been cured by getting a new wireless router. My old one was at least 5 years old (it didn't have "n"), and the new one seems to play much better with the Yamaha's yAired system. I still may end up adding a wireless bridge on the 5GHz band to my entertainment area just to get the frequency congestion down.

I don't know if it's just Apple or what. But since I changed all wireless over to Apple Airport Extreme's and Airport express. I have not had one problem with anything and I used to just hate all wireless changes, because I had so much trouble with the other brands. It is nice just to plug something in without having to get on the computer for a reconfigure and tell the router that there's something new in the house.
So there's a very good chance the Old router could of been the culprit.

Well round two. I just bought the last YSP-4300 that Onecall had. I have purchased from them before and never had a problem with anything. I had to Pay the premium Price, bit I hope now no shennanigans. I have purchased TV's, Recievers, speakers, HT Furniture, all kinds of equipment and they have never failed to deliver and they are a Authorized Yamaha Dealer.
That's got to be worth something.

Let us know what you think. Good luck, I'm sure you'll love it, wonder how much better the 4300 will be vs the 3300. Wish I could get my hands on one and test it

Just some info for you. ARC (Auto Return Channel) will only pass 2.0 pcm or DD/DTS same as optical. Even if you have a Blu-Ray that is sending HD Codecs Via HDMI to the Display it will not pass those to the Yamaha YSP. To utilize the ability of the Yamaha to decode HD Codecs found on most Blu-Ray it has to be Fed directly from the Source VIA HDMI. So you will need to plug the BLU-RAY VIA HDMI Directly into the Yamaha to use it's full potential. If you are not watching Blu-Ray and desiring the HD Codecs the ARC will work out just fine for the other 90% of you viewing enjoyment.
The reason I put this up is to save you the frustration of why my Yamaha will not recognize the HD Codecs.
My theory is, If we understand the limitation of technology we can enjoy it more.

I learnt that this is a function of the sound output from the TV to the soundbar. I've been tweaking this (I'm a guy who loves his toys wink.gif) the last couple of days and I wanted to see, how I could get the 'Surround' LED to turn on on the soundbar.

This is what I've done:
All my HDMI inputs feed the soundbar and I use ARC to output audio from the TV to the soundbar.
1) Set the sound output from the 'Cable box' to surround instead of stereo. This will output the audio to DD or DTS, which basically turns the surround LED on the soundbar to orange.
2) Set the sound output from the 'XBox 360' to Dolby Digital 5.1, this will output the audio to DD which basically turns the surround LED on the soundbar to orange.
3) Set the sound output from the 'TV' (FYI my TV is a Sammy) to 'DD' or 'DTS' instead of 'PCM'. This will output the audio to DD or DTS, which basically turns the surround LED on the soundbar to orange.

Now I don't have a Blue Ray player frown.gif and based on the audio output codecs (of devices) connected to the soundbar, I'll never get the 'Surround' LED to turn blue on the soundbar. This was something that I happened to stumble upon when I was treaking the different setup menu options on the devices connected to the soundbar.

Another thing I'd like to point out is, choose the right decoders on the soundbar in case you're not using 'AUTO' for channel outputs.

Does anyone know who to play music from iPad/iPhone/Laptop (preferably wirelessly) on the YSP without using the 'YIT-W12'?

From everything I have read in the manual. The YSP-3300-4300 really prefers everything sent to it VIA BITSTREAM. So select bitstream output on any piece of equipment you will be plugging into it.
I dont think you can do wireless on it with out the YIT-W12 Accessory Item. But I have been wrong before.

My Yamaha YSP-3300 arrived this week. I'm still trying to get it installed in top of my Panasonic VT50.

I cut a couple 2x4s to fit behind the TV, the are resting on top of the wall mount. I'll probably install a small board on top of the 2x4s to angle the speaker toward the couch.

Couple things so far:

#1 - The Box is HUGE!!!
#2 - You will need some adapters or a 90 degree cable if you want this anywhere close to the wall

Nice Pictures thanks for those.
Just my Luck the day after I buy Mine there here for $1150.00.

It's already out of stock now, but paying $200 for FM doesn't seem worth it. I'd rather get the 'YIT-W12' instead and just stream music from my iOS device or laptop. I have FM on those devices, Internet radio and spotify on those devices anyways. I don't see why I have have to play music through my USB.
The reason for my purchasing the 4300 over the 3300 was that one has 16 drivers and the other has 22 drivers. I don't know this to be fact, but my thinking was in a difficult room, or a woman of the house like mine who thinks shes a born decorator. If she was to install something in the room that made it difficult for the beams to get the effect I wanted. The more Beams the better chance of getting the effect that I purchased it for, and I have a fairly large living room with a Vaulted ceiling. In that size of room the DB out capabilities of the unit also come into play. I think it will give me a better chance of getting the sound level to a effective level for what I want without straining the drivers.
It sure wasn't the FM, iPod, iPad, or anything to do with music. I am a 2-Channel man when it comes to music, my McIntosh system does quite well in that regard.
If the Musical capabilities would of come into play I would of gave serious consideration to the B&W Panorama. I do like the ability of the YSP-4300 being able to decode the HD Codecs on board. I think there will be more advances in this and we will all be glad we coughed up the dollars for these units now.

This is all just one person's thinking and is worth just about as much as you would think it would be worth.

IMHO

My port savers have not arrived yet, so I setup the speakers on a temporary stand.

1 BIG problem, the Soundbar does not appear to Pass the HDMI signal when off. mad.gif

Can anyone confirm this? Or do I have something setup wrong?

I know my Yamaha RX-A1000 passes the HDMI when off, why the F would Yamaha build a Soundbar that doesn't? Especially when they want the Soundbar to be before the TV in the setup.
Ok, looks like you can change that:

Setup > HDMI > HDMI Control > On
Thanks for the pictures, very helpful to the rest of us planning an install.
New hiccup. I just spent about 30 minutes messing with the controls on the TV and the Soundbar.

This is my setup:

DISH Hopper ---> Yamaha RX-A1000 ---> Yamaha YSP-3300 ---> Panasonic 65VT50
LG Blu-Ray ---^

When I want to watch a signal directly from the Panasonic (ie VUDU on the Internet), I get no sound out of the YSP Speakers. I tried turning off the TV speakers and setting the TV to "Home Theater" Speakers, no luck.

So now I need to run the additional Optical Output from the TV to the Speakers anyway.

Do you see any why around this? Is the ARC HDMI supposed to be bi-directional?
ARC should work. Panny TVs are usually quite good about working with other equipment. Be sure you have Viera Link enabled, are connected to the HDMI (ARC) port on the TV, are using a high-speed HDMI cable, and if there is a setting on the soundbar to enable CEC be sure it's set as well.

I have seen nothing in the manual or in hook-up options that would indicate that this is possible.
Could be wrong but I don't think so.

Ok . Even If I'm not interested in wireless?
I guess my main question is the back of a YSP.. Is that a simple subwoofer in jack that any stndard Subwoofer cable would go into?

Thx
I don't think the SoundBar has a Sub output of any kind (other than wireless).

I assume I could connect my old subwoofer to my Yamaha RX-A1000 and use that with the Soundbar with that. As long as I run the HDMI through the receiver.
