POPCORN HOUR A-400 is coming soon - Page 5

If you pre-ordered (as I did) from Diamond Home Design please read:

You pre-ordered a Popcorn Hour A-400 from us and that's why you are receiving this email. If you received it twice we apologize.

The two U.S. importers of Pop products ship by boat. It's cheaper (which keeps the price down) but takes 3-4 weeks. We are considering having the first shipment of A-400s delivered by air. It will mean that you will receive you're player a good 3 weeks before the rest of the continent. We would charge an additional $8 per player if you were interested. It doesn't take everyone to make this work but nearly everyone due to the cost increase. Air shipments are usually 3-4 days!

Please let us know if you have interest in this idea. We will absorb the increased cost of all players not pre-ordered but shipped by air (i.e. that will go on the shelf).

Sincerely,
James Graley

That's why I posted it: he wasn't sure if everyone got the email he sent out to those that pre-ordered.

Thanks. I looked for the email and then responded to it. Although is there anything we need to do for the extra $8 payment? Eiterh way for only $8 to get it three weeks early sounds like a good deal.

I didn't even though I preordered.

If you pre-order and pay the extra $8 what is the estimated arrival date in US?
Update - I have my additional invoice now.
Not sure about 'when' we'll get them but if you opted to pay the extra $8 you should have received a revised invoice today. If not, you should email/call them direct.!

Not to get off topic, but is their any loss of quality in doing this? Is this is simply SBS?

No, this is not sbs (although DVDFAB offers the option). This is just doing a lossless main movie only rip
post #134 of 2288
Yep, DVDFab just added the ability to do this 2-3 versions ago, only a few weeks ago. The option is under 'Blu-ray Copy'. Just choose the main MVC playlist, subs you want, keep hd audio or not, then output as Blu-ray 3D, to ISO on hard drive. The resulting ISO is the full frame-packed 3D BD w/o menus and just the main movie.

I've never had a Popcorn player - I currently have a Boxee Box. I'm interested in possibly picking up the A-400 and putting the Boxee on the second tv. I currently generate nfo files for all of my movies and tv series, as well as for things like home videos. Will the NMJ in the Popcorn player, or third party jukeboxes like YAMJ make use of these files?

Will this player be able to play 10bit mkv files?

Wow either im out of the loop, or this is a huge breakthrough...

My knowledge of 3d is limited, so could it be used in players like xbmc hypothetically?

Apologies again for being off topic.

No, it is still a 3D BR disc, just main movie only. You still need special software to play back

No one has one yet for testing so you will have to wait.
is there any interest to use 10bits instead of 8bits ? In fact is there any 10bits source that can be encoded in mkv ? (questions are serious)

A lot of anime groups use it. they take an 8bit source encode it to a 10bit h264 inside mkv. The main reason being it helps with banding that is easily noticeable in anime. There is not retail 10bit source. But some other people that put things out on the web have started to try 10bit to see if it helps with other types of movies.

10bit needs tested and h265 since standard should be out January. would be nice if it had draft h265 just in case.

I've never owned a Popcorn player, got a TViX and a HiMedia HD900B. The TViX does have a jukebox feature but in order to source the movie info, icons, fan art etc I need to run an external, pc based program. Does Popcorn have similar 3rd party software to setup the jukebox?
A400 will make an extensive use of the internal NMJ jukebox. No need for a PC. Check a few pages before, I gave a link to the PCH french forum including some pictures.
