POPCORN HOUR A-400 is coming soon - Page 57

^ I was having the same issue, PI. And while I can't say for sure that the following it fixed it for me, it's been working correctly for awhile now since I recall doing this...

I turned the NMJ start up option to "off". Then I removed the power cable and restarted.

I then changed the NMJ start up to "on" and powered down again. Then restarted, of course.

Like I said, for some reason that may have "locked" it in, as I haven't seen that issue in awhile now.

Good luck. I feel your pain re the annoyance...mine (jukebox) wouldn't even start up in the "networked media" area so I was REALLY screwed.

OK thanks. I will try that. I did set it to off and then back on but I never powered it off and removed the plug.

I have a BDS700 and unless you don´t care about high bitrate mkv with HD audio I wouldn´t buy one!
I´M very disappointed with mine since I bought mainly to play remuxed mkv files with HD Audio, but it has lots of problems with DTS HD, especially when in 7.1 with lots of stuttering and audio drops. Bluray ISOs most of the times have lots of stuttering aswell...and as you said asus isn´t make any new firmwares and doesn´t even care to answer the complains of user on their own forum... I understand that must be difficult to release a Media Player without any bug, but I don´t really understand how a big company like Asus just don´t care about solving this issues, especially when the bds700 is their flagship...

at this point I´m thinking to buy an A-400 and keep the asus just as a bluray\dvd player

Anyone have a link to a guide for ripping main movie 3d bluray to ISO? I'm on a mac. Assuming it will be with DVDfab.

I'll be installing my 3d tv soon and own the a400. Want to try it out as I debate whether to keep it and rip ISO or get the Mede8er and rip to MVC MKV.

Yeah, who knows...could have very well be something else, but I certainly didn't do anything else...intentionally.

Hope it works for ya.

The last firmware was said to have fixed the audio drops on Dolby True HD files but I'm still getting them on the last half dozen I've played. Anyone else? Really brief- prolly less than a half second- drops every 20-30 seconds or so but tremendously annoying of course.

thanks

It worked after I unplugged it and then back in. Really weird that it does that. Now my only issue is the subtitles not showing up.

I've played several titles with the last two recent forum firmwares. I spent more time with the first one but TrueHD worked in both of them for me. Although the first one took longer for the audio to be heard. Like five or ten seconds. I have not tested the last forum firmware with a bunch of TrueHD titles yet.

I have played serveral trueHD movies and have never had an issue. When I leave the movie paused for around 10 min or so, I get the loading cirlce. Also rewinding and fast forwarding has issues too. I don't think that this is directly a trueHD issue because that happens on every blu ray.

When attempting to play any mp4 file(video calibration files) that has been downloaded from AVSForum, I recieve constant buffering(the buffer wheel). Thoughts?

Got ya...if it means anything, I happened to be noticing it with hi bit rate concert titles like DMB and TR and John Mayer. DTS versions of comparable titles are fine and I have no issues with other hi rate content.

What are you going to be using it in your bedroom for. Watch 3d movies? HD audio? there might be cheaper solutions for you for a bedroom unit.

Mostly DVD rip. I want the VXP chip for the great upscaling.

Most people don't even use VXP. "great upscaling" is a commodity chip in almost any device these days - player, display. etc.

Dune HDTV 102...

For $129, can't beat it.
I would take the popbox v8 over the tv102 and its cheaper at 99$ and if i remember right the tv 102 does not offer HD audio where the popbox does and as it shares the same apps market as all the other pch models, it has the youtube, plex, tunein, youporn all the other major apps that the pch line carries and it has somewhat of a built in jukebox it will fetch movie information and if you have a cover/nfo stored with the movie it will display a semi jukebox format

Then you get into the wdtv and the playon mini2

I myself have never seen anyone say anything decent about the DUNE tv series. I know a few around here that are hard core dune smart fans have put down the tv series. But I have never owned one personally

You can compare dbones reviews here

http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2012/08/02/review-dune-hd-tv-301/

plus if you already run yamj/eversion is plays on the v8 as well

can it pick up the database that the PCH uses? How is the user interface on screen display?
No it cannot use the NMJ DB if you run yamj it can run eversion/yamj but not NMJv2

here is a video werner made showing off the v8 interface
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxeAN7Eu2ys&feature=player_detailpage#t=202s

where NMJ is dynamic and stored in a DB, popbox v8 is more static and stored with the video files itself

Thanks! Looks like the PCH without the jukebox screen.

So I fired up DVDFab and did some 3D rips on Brave. I have the following results:

- A full ISO disc rip at 29.6 GB.
- A main movie ISO disc rip at 13.9 GB.
- A 2D main movie MKV rip at 21 GB.

I'm confused how the main movie ISO 3D rip is smaller by so much compared to the MKV rip. Is there some extra layer of compression applied in the ISO container or something? I had always thought there was none, or minimal at best.

The 2D movie rip was done off the 2D disc as well. Makes me wonder if the bit rate of the 2D encode is higher perhaps.

Both ISO rips played fine on my A400 so it looks like they worked. I can only play in 2D right now though until next weekend when my gear gets into my new house and we move. Glad to see the A400 had no issue playing back either 3D ISO in 2D, although I wish you could change that setting on the fly.

As it is, I think I'd leave the device configured with 3D off normally and then specifically turn it on before watching a movie when I want 3D. That way if my wife or kids fires up a movie, it will always be watchable be default.
The 3D ISO should have a higher bitrate than the 2D ISO. The maximum bitrate specs of a 3D BD was increased beyond what the specs were for a 2D BD.

I think the 3D has something like two movie files that play. Something like that. I'm sure someone else can explain it.

has seamless branching been fixed on this thing yet for 3D and regular blu ray ISO? I tired skimming the thread but could not find the answer.

No and probably never will for any media player.
I rip to to Hard Disk with AnyDVD HD and never have a seamless playback problem on my C-200.

Not true - the latest firmware is showing success.

I watched the beginnings of 3D BD ISO files of Brave and Rise of the Guardians and Hotel Transylvania and then I 'jumped around' watching Spider-Man 2012 without issues.

I'm going to put it to more testing later.

Yes, but you can't play 3D! I have no issues with 2D seamless branching titles on either the c200, Dune Duo, or my Oppo 93. HOWEVER, I can not stream 3D iso to my Oppo so was thinking of getting an a400 solely for 3D use. I am spoiled from the oppo's flawless 3D playback, but I must have the actual hard drive attached to the player and that is getting to be a drag. I mean, really....If I have to lug the Drive down, I might as well bring the disc! biggrin.gif These are true first world problems I am having here and I know it...The only thing I would miss is the menus from the Oppo but I think I can live with it IF PLAYBACK IS SOLID. And my version of "solid" is a bit unforgiving as I can't deal with stutters, skips, etc... Once again, real first world problems...
