A is for Alpha.

Ship it back next week i doubt they will fix everything you have wrong, cut your loss and be done. Or hold on to it and test after each release

That's good to know because if this unit does get stable the Navigator is a huge calling card for me and I'll likely re-order it.

In the meantime I think I'm going to hunt for a tablet with the cash I had ear-marked for the A-400. I think one with an IR blaster, wi-fi and bluetooth might be the ticket, then I could say bye bye to my Harmony.
Anyone know if such a best exists?

My a-400 came today. Will open it and play around tonight. Thankfully I'm in a temp living situation for the next few months before my house is done. So I have time to wait for firmware. Still scared to try it after reading all the reports though.

But I've yet to see it take anywhere close to one minute. Of course either way that is too long but it is a new player so it's really nothing I did not expect. I'm able to play most of my BD ISOs in the short term without issue, but a few started having issues after around 30 minutes or more of playback(and a few had issues after a few minutes). Although the times were also different depending on the ethernet switch I used.

My memory must be flawed because I was so enamoured with NMJ navigator on the tablet yesterday. I just timed a dozen BD ISOs starting up and they ranged between fifteen seconds and twenty five seconds to start. Not the ten seconds as I was thinking earlier.

Multimount NMJ is confirmed working by ROM so once he puts out a new version of NMJ manager you can add as many shares to NMJ and it will work no more single share limit.

Sweet!!!

Is there an estimate when this capability will be available?

Have my box up and running. Here are some of my thoughts. For reference, I have a 57" Samsung LED local dimming set. No current audio system though. Just using TV speakers right now.

- Firmware update prompted nicely and went off without a hitch.
- The interface, to me, is kind of ugly. Things looks downsampled and low res, from the text to the movie posters in the NMJ poster view. Like all the fine detail was sampled away on the posters.
- Setting up a network share access on my Synology DS 1511+ required turning on the guest account even though I manually specified the share and gave it user login info. That's so lame. I want the guest account on the Syno disabled.
- For the few movies I had ready to go, I had manually set all the meta data locally with the .nfo file containing a link to the IMDB page plus local poster and fanart. The NMJ scanner correctly picked up that local data properly on the several movies. That's a good first start. I plan to always use local meta data for everything it scans.
- Rescanning and updating the NMJ seems fairly robust. I've rescanned several times now and not seen a failure or crash.
- The iPad apps reflects the NMJ database updates quickly.
- NMJ told me that it had to pointed to the root of a shared folder, so I had to make a new shared folder on my Syno and copy my files there. I just made a "pch" shared folder. I guess all the content that the A400 will access will just need to live there...
- I put the .no_music.nmj and .no_photo.nmj files in the root of my "pch" share, but the NMJ iPad app still lets me select music as a media type...
- I wish the file info tab in the iPad app actually gave you useful info about the video file beyond the path and file name. I'd like to see a full MediaInfo style listing.
- Not sure why they made it the iPad remote control be two pages. With the real estate available, all of the remote controls could have fit in a single view.
- "Now Playing" in the iPad app is not very useful nor informative.
- Wish search in the iPad updated in real time in the view below as you typed like modern search interfaces do.

IMO, this looks decent now, but has a lot of room for improvement.

Regarding file playback, I had some BD full rips to MKV and some BD ISO full rips. Everything I've tried has played without stutter or issue. Chapter skip in the ISO takes a bit, but not in the MKV. I haven't

I mentioned about my friend coming over last weekend with his A400 and he did. The player is just full of too many bugs to even get a good baseline if it is even a good player or not. Something this buggy should not have eve left company. It is very obvious that Syabas does NOT do any testing or pre-testing on any of their products. Something that has this many issues and bugs could have never gotten through anykind of testing.

We were only able to play very small low bitrate TV shows. Anything of a better quality would most of the time not play at all, skip, have audio drop outs, and lose sync completely. My buddy didn't want to shell out the cash for a new Dune player but now he's going to return this A400 and buy a Dune with no hesitation now. Now that he's seen and used my player he's pretty much hooked on how stable and solid it is. Apparently anything compared to the A400 is most likely solid and stable. smile.gif Maybe a few months down the road after they get the firmware right, but selling such a buggy device and letting the paying customers do all the frustrating work on bug reports and everything is not very cool. People should just be able to buy something like this and use it. Like a DVD player or Receiver.

I really feel sorry for the guy who doesn't have a media player and goes out and buys the A400. He will be in for a huge awakening and and be in for an up hill battle the whole time. While some people think it is ok for a company to release such a buggy player ( I don't know why some people actually think that is ok ) I think it is completely wrong for them to do so and should be brought up with some formal charge to at least stop selling the product and then enable all returns no matter how old the player is. I wouldn't want to hear, "wait for the next firmware" all the time. Sorry, I would really rather be using the player and watching the content then fooling around with issues and firmware problems.

I agree. I learned a lot when I bought the A300...never buy a product that just came out specially from PCH.

If that happened there would be no media player companies left, Not sure when you got into the media player game, if the likes of tvix and things were in there prime or not, But back then you had some companies dropping new players every 3-5 months and never putting out a stable firmware they would put out a player drop it put out another, Wasnt until PCH, And DUNE started sticking with the A100/110 and the original prime and made the firmwares stretch to two years that we actually got stable players, And to this day No company that uses a NEW SDK and NEW CHIPSET has put out a solid player at launch, the DUNE smart and DOU series based off the 8643/8642 were more then likely the last new chipset player that was stable and I seem to recall it had some major bugs at launch mostly with subtitles and mkv's if I remember right. The 1186 realtek has been out a year and just now the mede8er is a stable player at launch but using something that has been out, Boxxe box tried it with intel CE line and again same thing. Like I said we the consumers have helped build this model, we crave lasted and greatest and the sad fact is I would say 70% of the market is people like US that buy players like we buy socks So there is no reason to break the model.

And I have to say the A400 is not the worst player I have ever had, Wile it is very buggy at launch not denying that, For the most part I can work with it as my not everyday use player, and I think it will get better over the next month, My worst player Im still waiting on a firmware and its been almost a year I have just about lost hope with it,

And sadly its not just media players that are effected, If you go through the TV threads around here its just as bad, I have been shopping for a new 3D tv for the past year or so on and off again and I browse the TV threads and the tv companies are the same releasing tv's and then firmwares that might fix the issue, when 24p was first announced for tv's there was not a single player on the market for almost two years that could display 24p problem free. I think what started it was the ability to update electronics easily and online, I remember dvd players, cable boxes, laser disc units, and tv's that only could not get updates or if they did they were costly full reprograms by a tech and they were rock solid but now its another story. I remember the first time my Verizon STB got an update if you put it into standby while it was connected to the tv it would forever power cycle.

I'm a novice on this stuff and have been researching and reading these and other forums.

I'd like to stream Blu Ray 2D and 3D (ISO would be good) plus mkvs (2D and 3D) from my nas with DTS-HD and TrueHD audio tracks - that's all - just for movies.
It is essentail that the player can play 3D without issue as I have many 3D BR Discs.

I've read that people are not hearing from Micca on the EP950 issues anymore and that they think support has dropped off.

I believe the 24p frame skipping is fixed in the latest Realtek chip

The Mede8tor10003D - hardware.nfo said that a number of formats didn't play

PCH A-400 - seems to be so buggy that it is fairly unuseable.

It would seem that all streamers have problems with DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD

Gosh! The whole Media Streamer thing seems to be a can of worms and that none do what they say on the tin.

Is it that the technology just isn't evolved enough at this stage to do what I need?

Your advice is appreciated.

Hi Rui,

How buggy are you finding the A-400? I like the features of this streamer, but am worried by the number of issues people are reporting in the forums.

Is the HD audio ok on 2D and 3D ISOs? Are you running Avatar 3D from an installed HDD within the A-400 or via a NAS/PC on the network.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick response. It good to hear from someone who actually has this streamer, seems many people like bashing rather than helping :-)

Have you tried running anything from a NAS as this is where I want to store all my movies?

Sorry for all the questions, but I don't want to buy someone and then find it doesn't do what I need.

Thanks

Wow! The EGreat looks like it might do what I want - do you know if it can stream 3D mkvs?
I've no problem converting my 3D Blu Rays to mkv side-by-side, but really want Dolby HD-MA and TrueHD audio. I just want to be able to stream them from a NAS - not even interested in artwork or movie descriptions, or menus for movies - just the main movie.

Thanks

But what is this DTS-HD MA dropout? On my A-400 I ended up watching a portion of Avatar last night (The extended edition), from the beginning of the movie to the point Jake goes into the herd of mountain Banshees. The full BD ISO played fine until that point with no audio or video issues. Then the video started studdering and the audio went out completely. Once this happens my A-400 doesn't typically recover and I need to stop the playback. Otherwise it continues along as if there is not enough bandwidth.

If I play this title with the Boxee Box, it will play the BD ISo all the way through and there will be four or five audio drop outs that last one to three seconds each. I haven't encountered anything like that with my A-400 yet.

Another thing I noticed was even though I selected the title with the extended edition, if I go back to play that BD ISO at the last watched point that shows up on NMJ navigator, it will be playing the normal title instead of the extended edition title. Hopefully this is something they fix in a future firmware. With the Boxee BOx it would remember that I was playing that extended edition title from that BD ISO and would continue playback from that point. The A-400 continues from the same timecode stop point but it isn't the extended edition when I return. I have to select the correct title again for the extended edition which makes it start from the beginning when you do that.

i had the med1000x3d since september and working 100%
yes i was interested in A400 before i start to read the first reports, i havent had that feedback before i got the med1000x3d

secondly why anyone would spend 300€ (392$ ) in player having the med1000x3d for 200€ (260$ ) thats more 100€ (130$ )

does everyone aware that mede8er gives 5 years guaranty to is players i dont no about usa , but in europe work s that away

@rui pedro you remember you mention that the only reason you bought the A400 was because of the ipad jukebox? even the advices was given to you in forumhifi.com you follow your away and you are perfectly aware of the issues of this A400, has i told you before.

you are more interested to having a ipad jukebox than the player playing the movies without issues, and its perfectly visible in your video , when you press play in ipad it take ages before the movie start playing .

im glad everything is working for you, but you dont understand that theres a plenty of persons on this forums that streaming their movies, you just using local hard drive over usb .

try to streaming from your pc or from a NAS and post a video doing that, you can use hanewin server.

im not bashing at you or to this player if your read my post in forumhifi.com about this player i wished everything works fine for the A400, because is important that this players worked well in a dying market like this one, but its important to mention the exsiting bugs

if you read my review about the med1000x3d i mention the small bugs in beginning and never hide ANYTHING

its important that theres more players from sigma or realtek to play without bugs , i dont have habbit to stick to any brand, no matter how good they are .

i use , windows, mac , linux , android, iphone whatever no preferences.

if you look at the NMT forums and mede8er forums theres a big difference in support and complains by the users , its like from heaven to hell.

ive heard about mede8er last june, and i was impressed with their players and built quality along with their forum support.

popcorn is a very famous company with a good marketing strategy , but unforntunatly their players dont proceed to their reputation

regards.

I'll look at the video later, but if your copy has a TRUEHD and not a DTS-HD soundtrack, that's why it plays without audio dropouts. The Region 1 disc has a DTS-HD soundtrack.

But what are these dropouts like? I did not encounter any audio dropouts playing my full BD ISO of Avatar with DTS-HD MA yesterday. But once the video started studdering the audio stopped playing. But if the video doesn't studder the audio is fine.

it seems that some have issues with dtshd and mkv, so more BD to mkv 1:1 rips, it is confirmed now by werner after he received samples showing this issue.
