Need your advice

Hi,

I have the Onkyo HT-S7409 home theater system.

I mounted them on the wall, but the two middle (left, right) speakers look very ugly on the ceiling. I want to replace them with in-ceiling speakers. The front (left, center, right) and back (left, right) speakers are fine on the wall. But middle speakers look very unattractive in the middle of the room on the ceiling.

Any ideas which in-ceiling speakers I should get to replace the Onkyo ones that are reasonably priced (approx $75-200 for the pair), and where I can get them?

can you show pics of your room or explain why the speakers are mounted on the ceiling? And are they really in the middle of the room? Is your listening position in the middle of the room?

Yeah your side surrounds should be no where near where they are located at... Really with your setup you don't have room for correct standard 7.1 setup. The side surrounds should be at 90 to 110 degrees to the listener, meaning directly beside or to the side but slightly behind. And rear surrounds should be 3 to 6 feet behind the listening position. So if you decide not to move the couch or rear surrounds you should definitely move the side surrounds back. Like put S5 directly over the end of the L couch and S4 directly across from S5, their width is good. However I would move S6 & S7 closer to the center keeping 3 to 6 feet between the 2 speakers.

Check out dolby.com dts.com and thx.com for correct speaker placement.
