Can I a 7.1 receiver degrade to 5.1?

Hi,

My Onkyo SR-707 is dying (no sound!!!) so I need to get a new receiver. Next spring we are redoing our family room and will likely go to 7.1. but today we have 5.1 setup. I thinking about getting a 7.1 receiver like the Denon 2113. Can most 7.1 receivers be set up to output only 5.1?

You don't have to use all 7 channels, 5 or 3 even 2 will work...

Any people have been doing with the intention of upgrading to 7.1. Fact is, most movies are recorded for 5.1 so need to rush to 7. Many studios have options though coming soon with more options/channels.
