Recordedtv is automatic. Just open up one of the mobile clients and all your recorded TV content will be there. The services piece that's on your PC is just to serve up/manage metadata to the clients.

Yep Recorded TV is automatic on it. That "TV library" is for local file TV collections feature that we are working on.

Soon for sure, we are working extremely hard to bring all the products up to Win8 compatibility

Glad to see the update to make it compatible with Android 4.2, was trying to show off my new Nexus 4 to a friend and couldn't tune any channels with the app lol.

Lucky you got a N4, a bunch of us tried to get it here, but wasn't able to get one before they sold out.

Yeah 4.2 they changed something silly, took me a few hours to figure it out though.

You can always long press on a channel in the channel list to tune as well

We have official Windows 8 Pro with Media Center (RTM) support now for the companion services.

'Play Random Movie' feature request


I submitted a ticket for this feature request a little while ago : http://tracker.cetoncorp.com/issues/209

I haven't heard anything about it so I figured I'd bring it up for discussion here. Would anyone else want a feature like this? To expand/clarify on how I think it should work - when in Movie gallery view, you could bring up the context menu in the app (varies depending on your OS) and there would be a 'Random' selection. Hitting this would bring up the details page of a random movie selected from which you could just hit 'Play'.

So in Android when you hit the settings button (the 3 vertical squares) while in the movie gallery, it would say random as one of the options. Hitting it would then bring up the details page of a randomly selected movie from which you can select the play button. It would work the same on Windows 8 & Surface if/when Ceton develops that app by swiping up from the bottom or right clicking when in the Movie Gallery view to bring up the context menu strip. From there you would select Random and then play on the resulting movie synopsis page.

I don't have iOS or a Windows 7 phone so I can't say how the feature should be implemented on that or if it would even work like I described. Anyone with the app on one of these devices want to chime in? Also like I said, am I alone in this request?

This could also be implemented for when Ceton enables the TV Collection view/feature they have planned.

And Ceton devs, would implementation of this be feasible or would it have to wait till further down the road to even be considered?

This feature or play random movie or tv episode will be available in the next update of the apps. i just finished testing.

Hey Motz. Got a quick question you may be able to help with.
I am using Win8Pro. When I download the Companion app from the site, I download ceton_companion_services_setup_w8_20121126_12_11_26_0835. When I go in to the app and select "beta" in the update screen, it tells me that I'm running an earlier version (ends in _20_xxxx, can't remember off the top of my head) and that I can update to the newest _26_xxxx version. I click on the "update" link and I download the same version I already have. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

That is actually a bug right now in versioning. You have the latest one from the website (it is always the latest on there).

The version is a time stamp of when it was built: year_month_day_minute

Play Random Movie?

Is that for when you cannot decide what to play?

I also have it in the TV Gallery, so if you pick a show then you can hit Random and it will play a random episode. I think this is great for random sitcoms or for the kids.

Or even if you just want some background noise.

In other news, my co worker was on the fence about turning in his cable boxes and going HTPC until I showed him the app running on my iPhone. That was his tipping point. He has placed his order on Newegg for his new Ivy Bridge Mini ITX/USB iTV4

Actually, this is the 3rd iTV I've sold, and I'm being completely passive. My parents come over to watch the big game, they fall in love with the iTV, WMC, and the iPhone app. My wife’s friend and husband come over to hang out and fall in love with them as well. I direct them to Assassin HTPC and/or cetoncorp.com and the rest is history.
You guys make some really compelling products that are an easy sell.

Also, my coworker went ahead and downloaded the companion app to check it out using my external IP using his brand new Note 2. Looks fantastic.

Loving this app on Nexus 7

I'm still pretty new to it, but I love the Guide and with the channel logo plugin on media center is looks great.

The companion app is working really well for me at the moment, especially with the companion services autopopulating metadata. Very neat function!

Is there an ETA on the TV episode side of things? I like the way is merges multi files movies into one playlist, but that doesn't work too well with multiple TV episodes

This app needs WMC loaded to work... correct? Ive tried starting a recording or tuning to a channel in the guide when my pc is just on the desktop and nothing happens.

I just want to confirm if the app is working as intended. Meaning it is unable to start WMC on its own.. is that correct?

It works for me without having WMC actually running. Have you tried restarting? I was having the same problem at some point where it wouldn't start recordings etc without WMC actually being open, but a restart fixed it.

I think the question is if WMC needs to be open to start playback or tune a channel. And that is correct you need WMC open or an extender in extender mode for it to show up and tune.

Currently the app does not launch WMC automatically, however we do plan on adding that feature in the future.

I know you guys are already working on bringing new features to the app, so I figured I'd throw in an idea...

We came from DirecTV. Their iPad app had a "most popular programs right now" feature, so for instance on Sunday night, football would be at the top followed by other national programs on Fox News, CNN, etc.
Several times, I would ask "why is everyone watching ?" only to turn it and find out there is something big happening. This might already be on the roadmap (or already in the app and I haven't seen it), but I wasn't sure if it were even possible for WMC to report what people were tuned to.

Any idea why on my Nexus 7 sometime I have to execute a command multiple times before I get a result? E.g. The remote section I might have to hit pause 6 or 8 times before it actually pauses.

I have a bit of a work around. Browsing to another section of the app that clearly communicates with the WMC PC (e.g. recorded TV) to pull data, then going back to the remote seems to fix it. It's definitely like the app is losing the communication link to the server until I prompt it back into action by doing the work around. Otherwise, I can just be sitting there pressing buttons with nothing happening...

Might be a good opportunity for a future fix/update if others are experiencing this.

Edit: I would like to know if this is a problem only for me, so I can troubleshoot as required. Anyone else having this issue?
