LED's have many problems. Many of them are discussed in this document by TI. From what I am seeing the native contrast of LED DLP is much lower than a lamp based source. I suspect this is from the entendue mismatch for the DLP chip and the LED light source.

That is a very interesting read. Doesn't sound like laser illumination is going to be easy to utilize either.

Especially not for dlp, though it seems to have more possible advantages for lcos.

Pricing of 4K-UHD TVs are all over the place at the moment. Here is a 50" Seiki UHD TV for $ 1299 in the US; http://www.shopnbc.com/Seiki_50_Slim_LED_4K_Ultra_HD_120Hz_HDTV_w_HDMI_Cable_Two_Year_Extended_Warranty/437-325.aspx?storeid=1#videofrompg

Yeah, that one threw many of us for a loop. At least from where I sit it seems like the 4K pricing is going to drop faster than most of us seemed to have expected. Not that it does any good unless the content races along with it.

I wonder how Sony ascertains that the server only outputs 4k to the XBR-84X900 and not for example to a VW1000ES projector?

In any case I look forward to your impressions! Of the titles that come with the server do you have any of these on Blu-Ray? That certainly would provide an interesting comparison.

I see Gefen EDID spoofer in action for that.....

I saw the Sony 84" yesterday at the local Sony Store. Holy cow! Unbelievable IQ. Wish it wasn't $25,000 but give it a few years I guess...

Howabout this? Sony just announce the 4K media player FMP-X1 for $699.

Half the price of the RedRay with 4k downloading coming this fall. You have to figure that Sony will have a new consumer 4k projector ready by this fall as well, right?

But I read that Sony's FMP-X1 will only work with their TVs... Oh well, time to move on.

Hmmmm......Your post is listed as 555 of 554. I swear I saw Spock with a beard somewhere.

In any case, it's fairly obvious that we're in the "deadline-doom" stop-gap phase of things.
