I was in a certain b&m store Friday and found myself admiring receivers and speakers. In the course of doing so, I received an explanation of the advantages of the Pioneer SC line's Class D amplifiers compared to theVSX line. I also received a demonstration by virtue of an A to B comparison using the same speakers. Maybe the set-up was rigged, but the SC-61 sounded far better than whichever VSX model it was. I also liked it a little more than a comparable Marantz. I was impressed enough to start thinking about prying open my wallet. From what I have been able to read online, the receiver is really very good. I am using an old Sony receiver currently (hdmi? We don't need no stinkin' hdmi...) and am thinking of upgrading.
As I was doing some research, mainly comparing the SC-61 and 63 and 65, I discovered Best Buy no longer has the 61 on its website. I believe the SC-61 was on clearance at the store, and maybe that is related to its absence online. All three models remain on PIoneer's website. Is the 61 on its way out? I saw that the 61 and 63 are selling for the same price on Amazon, which made me wonder. I also think I read somewhere on avs that Pioneer typically announces new receivers early in the summer. I realize I missed a good buying opportunity about six weeks ago, unfortunately. (I apologize it price talk is inappropriate here, I didn't see a separate forum for it.)
I welcome thoughts, suggestions, and ideas for someone considering purchasing one of these receivers.
