It's probably not a "rip", because different packaging, some differences in the electronics, much lower sales volume, marketing takes its toll on the price, making it much pricier to produce (and sell).
Its a niche product, which is been carried by only a few dealers and mostly hard to get (special order) because there is no real "market" in terms of sales volume for this anymore.
Who is spending their hard earned money for a preamp/processor plus several power amps nowadays if you can get everything (almost) in an all-in-one page (higher end AVR).
There normally is only a very small group of users, who really need the power and the options of a component type multi-channel system.Edited by gurkey - 9/17/12 at 3:34am
