4 SEOS-12 Deltalite II 2512 + 3 SEOS-12 JBL 2226H

Hello all. Here is my attempt at building some SEOS speakers. First thanks to all involved with Econowave / Pi / SEOS and DIY audio in general. I've been lurking and wanting some waveguide pro style capable speakers for a while. The Econowave Delites is what I was always eyeing and later JBL systems like Not's and many others.

My 2512 boxes are built but, not done and my 2226H boxes are still various sizes of plywood. Waiting for me to cut out baffles and bracing.

SEOS-12/ DNA-360/ Deltalite II 2512...crossover by bwaslo

24x15x12" enclosure. 22.5x13.5x10.5 interior
3/4" Arauco ply.
1.5" front baffle.
4" diameter x 4"L round port
5 window pane style beaces

1.84ft^3
-.033 port
-.1 woofer
-.15 waveguide+ cd... guess
-.12 bracing
__________
1.44 ft^3 tuned to about 58.14 Hz w/ 4"d x 4"L port

not to thread jack, but the 2226H/360/seos is the same combo I am looking at, but I have the 2225H's do you think the XO stuff would all be the same, since they basically model identical minus the lower power handling?

I really can't tell you. I just follow the designers instructions:). Thats a question for the vets.

I wanted the 2226H boxes to be tower speakers because they are going behind a 24" deep screen wall that is padded so it really about 20-21" available. Plus the volume needed can be achieved with the tower height vs using speaker stands. I have all the cut to dimension plywood marked and ready to be cut out.
This is what I planned on doing with the towers.

SEOS-12/ DNA 360/ JBL 2226H

49.5 x 18.5width x 13.25" enclosure. 48 x 17width x 11" Interior dimensions
3/4" Arauco ply
1.5" front baffle
2 4" diameter x 4"L round ports
7 window pane style beaces

5.19ft^3
-.066 ports
-.2 woofer
-.15 waveguide+ cd... guess
-.25 bracing
__________
4.52 ft^3 tuned to about 46.41 Hz w/ 2 4"d x 4"L ports

Does anybody see anything that needs to be changed while I can still cut them differently?

Maybe obvious, but looks like some of the window bracing will interfere with the back of the driver / waveguide? Also seems a bit overkill as far as number of braces, and will add weight, but that maybe is a preference thing - mine are the other extreme, minimalist bracing.
Brad, it looks like he has allowed clearance for the drivers. His cabinets will be well braced. smile.gif

Oh right you are, I was just looking at the SketchUp picture, wheras the 2512 cabinets show the cutaways on those braces.

Through reading on the net I've seen conflicting statements on how a speaker should be braced (more vs less) so, I decided to try this. It is only about $50 more in the grand scheme of things so "its in there". They will be heavy and BIG but, they won't be traveling once they are done. The 2512 box is already hefty without the drivers installed eek.gif so, an enclosure for a 15" speaker in tower form was going to be heavy regardless smile.gif . Here is another view of the sketch up box.

All of the active bracing is being done by the crosses. The material in the corners is just excess weight and cabinet volume reduction, as the corners are the strongest part of the cab and don't need bracing. In a cab large enough to house a fifteen consider below, the pic on the left being full window bracing, on the right a 'double cross' that uses less material but is far more effective:

Thanks Bill. I've read you and others mention about the "+" before. So would this be a better solution than the window considering the interior of the enclosure?

That's one option, but the cross pieces need not intersect, so for an even easier install just run dowels or stringers from side to side and front to back. Shown as you have with 5 inch free space between the braces you can use 1/2" construction and it will still be solid as a rock.

I have been making progress but, I'm not done. The 4 SEOS 2512 boxes are ready to be assembled. The crossovers were completed before the boxes were started.

I lined the boxes with mineral wool and covered that with batting so any loose mineral wool won't go flying out.
IMAG2478.jpg
IMAG2479.jpg
I cut the speaker wire to length for the 2512 boxes and weather sealed and duct tapped the waveguides for them.
IMAG2484.jpg
IMAG2489.jpg
I just need to mount the cd's to the waveguide then I can assemble the 4 2512 / SEOS speakers.

The 2226H boxes are assembled and rounded over but, not lined with mineral wool and batting yet. I got alot of voids on one of the sheets of Arauco ply. They didn't show until I used the router on the edges.

I wont be putting a finish on them until they all are done. I didn't recess the guide or woofer on any of my boxes because I plan on using this

Hopefully I can get them to look as good as the other AVS members subwoofer. Time to go play with mineral wool. smile.gif

Nice, will be interesting to see that "finish" come together

I tested all of the speaker components outside of the box before I put them together. Each speaker wire, terminal, CD, woofer and crossover. Then they went in.

I used hot glue to hold the wire in place

That is a 50" plasma in the pic.

Just gave this build a read and subscribed! Very Nice!!
I will be following along, as I have 2512's and SEOS12s on order.

I'm contemplating a ported tower build.
Looks like you are planning the same but even bigger with 15" JBLs smile.gif ?

So are you using the JBL 2226h in a subwoofer type cabinet? Parden my ignorance but doesn't the 2226h work better as a woofer for, say, 70hz to 250hz? I was under the impression that pro-style woofers, such as the 2226h, work better at the upper low frequencies and that they do not work well with the ultra low frequencies? I guess I was wrong.

I have been kicking around the idea of building some Seos-15's over the Klipsch inspired Corn-Scala's that I was initially considering as everyone tells me the Seos-15 will best it. If and when I do build a trio of Seos-15's, I wonder how the 2226h would work as the LF driver in that design, along with a DNA-360? Has any one ever done a 3 way build with the Seos-15's?

Pardon my ignorance, when people say they are ordering a SEOS kit, can someone provide a link to where you get the kit? Thanks.

I'm going to use the 2226h's with the SEOS-12 and DNA-360s for my LCR. I have completed the 2512 speakers except for the finish. There is no passive crossover out for the 2226H yet so its not complete. I'm going to try an active crossover for the SEOS-12 / 2226H / DNA-360 speakers. I have an Emotiva amp and all the other needed items to measure and do an active XO but, I've never even used REW before. Or measured anything eletronically before. I'm using 8 MFW-15 sealed subs for the low end. I just made 2 F-20 enclosures to try out because I've always wanted to try a horn loaded subwoofer.

Wow, that is going to turn out to be quite the performer! Can you give me a little info on how those 8 MFW-15's in sealed enclosures are sounding? What are you powerng the MFW's with? How do you like the 2 F-20's compared to the sealed MFW's?

The MFW-15's sealed sounds very good and capable. I never see them move much when they are producing their bass notes. I'm using an EP2500 to power the MFW-15s. I have a Crown XLS-402 powering to MJ-18s. Im going to use the Crown to power the F-20s. I'm going to the basement to work on the f-20s now. I need to install speaker terminals, speaker wire, weather stripping, install the 15s in them and screw in the access panels.

Have you ever compared the sealed MFW's that you are running now, to the stock MFW-15's from av123? If so, how do you like the sealed MFW's compared to the stock MFW''s? What are you using to EQ all of this stuff? Are you using the sealed MFW's in the same theater that you will be using the F-20's? I had thought about doing some thing similar, like running a pair of subs for the really low, 10hz to 25hz frequencys, and then run something like an F-20 for the upper bass frequencys, that way I could have all of the output of the F-20's, (which is a lot from what iv read!), and also the really deep bass that an F-20 can't produce.
