1000 dollars to Best Buy - go shopping for me

Hey everyone. I got 1000 dollars in gift certificates to Best Buy. I already have my 55 inch Panasonic GT50 plasma coming

I am making my study into a movie/sports watching room as my MIL is moving into my house with some health issues, and i am getting a little bit of my house to call my own.

The room is approx 12x11. I will be sitting aprrox 10 feet way from the tv.

I need a receiver and 5.1 speaker setup (either in a box or more likely pieced together).and a blue ray player.

It has to be from best buy..

Go... smile.gif

oh and edit - i can go over 1000 - lets say another 300-400 over - but lets just stay with best buy for ease.

Personally I would not buy from BB, and just have someone pay cash for those gift cards, and go elsewhere. BB will not be around in two years, and even now their inventory pickings are slim.

I can't imagine a worse experience than buying speakers at BB, I happened to be there today and it was pretty awful, the "helper" had no idea what a bipole or a dipole was, the source was a fuzzy radio station nothing about the experiance made me want to buy a speaker! End rant

Seriously though try and find a magnolia store and go there, they carry higher end products and I hope they have trained employees. If that isn't an option get the andrew jones speakers http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Pioneer+-+5-1/4%26%2334%3B+Floor+Speaker+(Each)/5086937.p?id=1218610014331&skuId=5086937

and the bookshelves http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Pioneer+-+4%26%2334%3B+Bookshelf+Speakers+(Pair)/5086955.p?id=1218610014045&skuId=5086955

and the matching center. The AVR is a good choice though you can get one for $189 on accessories4less.com

I got a good best buy story for you guys. Almost 2 years ago now my uncle went to best buy to buy a surround sound (of course he did this with out consulting me first). But any way he didn't know any better and the employees there are even worse. My uncle came home with a Yammy receiver, which they told him he could hook up coax cable tv to and it would work (they told him to screw it onto where the FM antenna goes, HOW RIDICULOUS!). Also he liked the sound of the Klipsch Icon V series speakers. But he liked the VS-14s which are the surrounds, which of course no one told him. So they convinced him to buy 4 VS-14s 2 for front L&R and 2 for side surrounds and here is the best part Best Buy employees said that a BOSE center would be well matched with this system. These ppl shouldn't even work at an electronics store if thats what they are gunna tell ppl.

Bottom line if your going to best buy make sure you do your home work cuz you need to be smarter than the employees or you WILL GET SCREWED!

Take a look at the new Pioneer speakers. BS-22, C-22 and maybe F22 towers.

Bic V1020 or V1220 sub
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/BIC+America+-+12%22+430-Watt+Powered+Subwoofer/2750541.p?id=1218348487515&skuId=2750541&st=bic subwoofer&cp=1&lp=4

Receivers.
First I would look for some of last years Denon models on clearance. They would end in xx12. If you can't find any maybe the 1613 will meet your needs. Also this HK AVR 1650 isn't bad for $329.

Blu Ray player
Sony BDP-S390
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+Wi-Fi+Built-In+Blu-ray+Player/4790296.p?id=1218531614485&skuId=4790296&st=sony bdp&cp=1&lp=2

I bet you could get the 5 speakers, sub, reciever and bdp for $1000 if you ask the salesperson to cut you a deal. They'll be willing to deal on the new pioneer speakers and if you're spend $1K they'll make the other components fit in your budget.

BB around me has knowledgable staff, the yamaha HTiB 5.1 YHTi497bl for $399 looked pretty nice to me, the yht 397 and 597 also looked nice. I happened to buy an onyko ht-s5400 from hh gregg at a great price.

Be sure to get an AVR that upconverts to 1080p. I own the GT50 as well and on certain (lower quality) cable content the PQ can tend to look a bit softer. I have been told using the processor from an upconverting AVR helps with this. I think Denon makes some decent AVR's that upconvert for about $500.

BTW, excellent choice on the TV!

I also have been researching home theater in a box for my weight room in the garage. After extensive looking and listening, I came up with the Yamaha YHT 497 for $399.99 at Best Buy, Amazon.com, Accessories 4 less, and a few others. The Yamaha YHT series comes in 397;497;597; 797; etc... The only difference when you go from the 497 to the 597 and above is the 597 and above has eternet wifi, however the 497 has a USB port for MP3'S, MP'4'S; ETC.... so for the garage and over $150. cheaper I will be going with the 497 which had the best sound for the buck on the main floor. With the savings in money you can look at loading up on BLU RAY movies etc....
