Vizio M3D651SV?? - Page 3

Anxious to hear your thoughts, as Im eyeballing this if it ever goes down again. 65in is massive coming from my 46HX800. I just hope the picture is up to snuff with my sony.

This has been out of stock on all sites (Amazon, Wallmart, Vizio, etc.) for a week or so. Anybody have any clue why, or when it will be available?

I can't speak as to how it compares to the Sony. Mine is replacing a 65inch Toshiba 65HX93 Rear Projector CRT - one of those monsters with three projection lamps in the base.

This set compares favorably with it. My wife has even suggested she likes this pic better, though that might be because I had the toshiba calibrated pretty close to what it was supposed to be which gives a somewhat darkers image than most folks enjoy. For this Vizio, I've mostly left it at the "Standard" mode so far and turned off the ambient light sensor, which results in a fairly bright picture.

I'm happy with the Vizio so far, and I feel lucky that I picked one up at the $1499 price. I see they are back up to $1750 in a number of places. Someone suggested that it was a discontinued item, but I'm not sure that's really the case.

I used the AVS 709 Calibration for the basic settings on this.

I've done these during the day, but the room was somewhat dark. I'll be rechecking them in a darker setting as well.

for running the tests, I turned everything in the Advanced Pic settings to off except for Film which I left at Auto. However, after I finished the settings, I did turn the Smart dimming feature back on. From the different clips I've watched this feature really improved the screen uniformity and the black levels. Smart dimming is Vizio's term for local dimming by zones I believe. Also I should note that the setting for Luma I left off. When on this setting seemed to create problems for some dark scenes, with it off and Smart dimming on, the dark scenes looked quite good.

Custom Pic Mode
Color temp: normal (note the default was cool - but I think Normal is more natural)
I set backlight to 50 (after I finished with settings I experimented with differnt values and found that the backlight setting didn't seem to affect the other settings until i got to extreme ends of range.

Brightness - 51
Contrast - 70
Color - 49
tint - 0
sharp - 3
Size - Hor +1, Vert +1 (I almost didn't make these changes, the 0 percent white line on the 709 pattern is just visible, but I noticed a few broadcasts that would occasionally get a white vertical line on one side or the other. The plus one setting is a very minute change actually.

I'll recheck these for a darker room, but I doubt I'll see too much change.

Oh, and after the setting are made, I did turn the smart dimming back on.

A good reference scene was the first 10-15 minutes of Equilbrium.

I should also add that my wife prefers the image from the Standard Mode out of the box settings. And it actaully does look pretty good. So we'll do most of our TV show watching in that mode. I'll use the Custom mode for watching movies and tv shows that I watch without her, or when watching things during the day.

I looked at that LG thread and the pictures on the page you linked and on boot up I do see some "hotspots" like in that picture, but once the actual picture starts I never really notice anything, even on a grey/black picture. I do occasionally see a dark line from top to bottom during a fact action screen like a football field or baseball outfield. Nothing major but you can notice it.

I too am curious as to when this product will be back in stock. I don't know if it was out of stock because of the black friday/cyber monday hooplah and they are taking their time to satisfy orders, or that they won't have any for a while. I would love to know when they will be in stock so I can buy it now. Been waiting to get a new tv for some time now and finally chose the Vizio...the one out of stock.

I've had the 651 for about a week now and I'm having problems with it. I love the set but when I'm watching a program and the scene changes the pictures frequently jumps or flutters for a split second. Almost like it's not refreshing fast enough. I have 2 DirecTV DVRs and I have tried both of them with the set. I still have my 554 in the room and connected them both with a splitter to see if it was the station but the 55" didn't display this.

Is anyone else having this problem. 2 of the stations that really show it are Lifetime and Hallmark. They are showing a lot of Christmas movies so the set has been on those stations frequently.

Has anyone else noticed this. It's pretty annoying and I don't think it should be doing this. I really like the set and don't want to return it but won't keep it if this continues. Unless I just got a bad set.

Any input would be appreciated.

I had this tv for a few days. Really enjoyed the features, value, screen size, but started experiencing what I believe is banding. I think those dark lines you see on fast moving scenes is banding. Maybe someone could shed light on that. Bottom line, once I saw it, I couldn't stop seeing it. Regretfully, it went back and sounds like that panel may be plagued with that problem.

I went to an lg 60lm7200. Really enjoying it and not seeing those dark vertical lines on fast scenes. It's smaller, but its aesthetically nice and the picture has a great deal more control.

I've had mine for less than a week, but haven't noticed that issue. But I don't think I've watched either of those channels. I watch either OTA antenna input, or DISH via HDMI1. I also have a DVD Recorder on HDMI2 and a BluRay on HDMI3. I watch a fair bit from my DISH DVR (recorded shows and movies). I did see one scene change where I saw a color smear, but I've been playing around with differnt settings so I'm not really sure which setting I had it on. For most normal viewing I have most of the advanced pic menu options set to off. the exception is Film mode, and Smart Dimming. The smart dimming made a difference in very dark scenes.

I'm running all of my audio through the tv then to my audio reciever using digital optical cable. I may try some other alternatives as I do occasionally note an issue with lip-sync, but it is mostly limited to one station, and I recall having the same issue with my old RPCRT.

EDIT: Also, what Firmware version are you running? mine is ver 2.15.2.0894

This is banding. Is this what you see?


Otherwise it sounds like interlacing. Interlaced video playing on a Progressive screen. Like this:


The above is normal and only occurs when you are watching a video with the wrong type of output. M3D651SV is 1080p (progressive) and not 1080i (interlaced).

But I think the M3D651 switches to whatever input type it recieves. Though it might still be an interlacing issue. For OTA broadcasts I see 1080i and 720p depending on network. From my DISH I get 1080i, from my BluRay and DVD Recorder I get 1080p. This matches what I see when I use the Vizio Info button.

My FW is 2.15.2.0894, same as yours. I think that's the only one for it so far.

I just watched Avatar 3D from my PopcornHour and it played perfectly over HDMI. I don't understand why those channels have problems but they don't on my 554. I'm going to some more testing. I really like the set, the 3D is Much better than the 554 that has the active shutter glasses.

I'm surprised there aren't more posts about this set.

I'll have to try the audio from the TV to the reciever. Right now the audio goes from my DVR to the reciever and if the TV sound is on I get a bad echo.

I'm also surprised that ther aren't more users with this set. Maybe folks have shied away because of the reports of a super glossy screen, but it hasn't been an issue for me at all. And the tv is in a room adjacent to a picture window on one side and patio doors on another side (though farther away). But it really hasn't been an issue.

I turned my tv speakers off, although I used them the first day before I connected my reciever and thought the sound wasn't bad from the 15w internal speakers.

I don't have any 3D source (most of my components predate 3D).

So far I'm pretty happy w.th mine as well

I prefer the Glossy Screen, the blacks are black and the colors are so vivid. Mine is in a bright room and it's not a problem at all.

I've been posting in this thread since there isn't one for the 651. The 650 is similiar except for 3D and they seem to be having the same problems as me.

Does Component input work ok on yours. Mine is terrible, the picture keeps going out.

I don't have anything connected via component. I may switch my DVD Recorder to Component and re-arrange some of my other cables, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I've also posted some over in the 650SVE thread as I assume they aer very similar. But couple of significant differences (ther may be more) are the 240Mhz for the 651SV vs 120Mhz for the 650SVE, and for me at least, the existance of the "Smart Dimming" on the 651SV. I think that setting helps improve the dark scenes. I've turned off the adpative Luma though.

I have narrowed my startup lag to the internet connection to the TV. Where when my TV is connected to my internet via the wired or wireless it lags bad at startup. This lag prevents you from changing inputs or doing anything other than watching what ever input you are on. This lag goes away after a few minutes. Once I remove my internet connections startup is fine.
Anyone else have this issue?

My set is very consistant at 20 sec from when I turn it on until I'm able to switch inputs. I read some posts about the slow startup, so I times mine several times. And then I used this to program my Harmony 650 powerup delay.

Mine is connected via wireless and that doesn't appear to be causing me a problem. You might check your firmware, and you might contact support. Like I said, mine is very consistent at 20 sec.

I have the M3D650SV and connected to internet via ethernet cable to my router. My startup time is right at 20 seconds also. I am connected only to download a firmware update. I do not use any of the smart apps. Speaking of firmware mine is 2.17.0.1100 (M3D650SV).. I have owned this set since July and have not had an update.

Banding it is and it was to obvious on my set. Thanks for the pics

I'm not sure if there is a moderator that could combine this thread with the Official M3D651SV thread, but I would suggest that be done.

Agreed, I never knew there was an Official thread.

I pre-ordered the M3D651SV on Amazon a week ago they just sent me an email stating it will SHIP on the Dec 7th!

As of yesterday, BJ's Wholesale Club's site did not indicate "out of stock," so I took the plunge. Price $1,579.99 plus tax and $50 membership. So we'll see if the order gets fulfilled right away.

I'm not buying anything Cnet says, I'd put money on it that there on the take with Panasonic, best way to get an honest opinion is from the buyers. As it stands this T.V. has highest customer rating average on Amazon.The Cnet review was right about glossy screen, funny how it didn't seem to be an issue on those Panasonic plasmas they rate so highly. O that's right he said this one is the glossiest hes ever reviewed lol,

Amazon shipped this tv to my address on Dec 8, around noon..
I am just giving brief review here,, but will post more details later.

I watched HD movie in Netflix,, quality awesome
I have basic cable connection,, watched some hd channels,, they are excellent
I tried to see one DVD [its a tv series known as boy meets world],, this not looks good.. I dinot know why.. May be because of DVD quality.
I watched few FREE vudu 3d trailers,, quality is amazing
vudu hdx movies are excelent that even you will get better quality than theater.

Sound quality is excellent [donot compare with home theater systems,, just compare with other so called SONY, PANASONIC, LG etc]

NOTE:
TV USB ports will work to display photos and play mp3 music only.. so donot expect that load some movies and watch it from USB drive.

Now problems:
As soon as I switch on the tv for brief second [one or two],, I am seeing some foggy band kind of thing on center portion of screen.. Not sure what it is
But once TV up and running,, I am not seeing this.. Once I switch off TV also,, I am not seeing this white foggy kind of band
It may be related to startup,, but not sure whether it is really a problem or not

I am going to purchase square trade 4 years warranty

NOTE2: we tried with some theater 3d glasses ,, but they did not worked.. May be all theater glasses not equal.

Overall I can say it scored 90/100 marks..

its available on sams club/bjs ,, but I suggest you guys purchase it from amazon,, so in case if some problem occurs,, they will take tv back and replace with new one.. Instead of you drive to store to return it [you can say the trip to store is all most 100$ including your time and packing, loading, hiring minivan, truck etc]

I am not sure whether I am also facing banding problem or not
but I am noticing white cloud at the time of start up [not entire screen.. I can say its middle of screen -- all most of size 27 inches tv].. It will be there for couple of seconds and then screen looks normally.

any idea about what it is?
