Benefits of different levels of devices?

In my earlier thread I explored the idea of giving my AIOS to the kids. I however am not clear on the benefits for the money of the different levels of media players. Say the AIOS/WD live vs. PCH 300/400 vs. HTPC running XBMC. I do not need 3D support nor will any ripping being done from the player. My concerns are playback quality and ease/appearance of the GUI. Media will be streamed from a nas. Can someone give me an idea of what I'm paying for at each level?

The higher up you go, the more stability and reliability you get

I haven't had any stability issues with the AIOS. I guess my thought is it worth 3-5x as much for other options.

If your device does what you want, then why look further?
