Hey guys,
I bought the 60-inch ex645 about a month ago and, all of a sudden, the TV stopped working. No picutre, video, etc. When swithced on, only backlights turn on, but no menu display or anything. HELP!!!
I would like your opinions of some TV’s I am considering. I originally was considering the Sony 55 HX850 but have become concerned of the cost of it ($2000). I am coming from an 8 year old Sony plasma and want to go to an LED TV. Newer technologies will be coming and am concerned about investing too much money on a technology what will be obsolete real soon like(OLED, 4k resolution etc). Also the price of this set has not been discounted as much as I expected, Sony's new policies.. The other sets I have been considering at lower price points are the Vizio E601I-A3 ($999), the Sony KDL60EX645 ($1499) and Sony KDL55HX750 ($1499). But I an concerned with the over quality of black level, black uniformity and off axis viewing of these compared to the Sony 55HX850.
Unfortunately I cannot view these sets in order to compare them and I am looking for suggestions on a direction to go in. Should I wait for the new 2013 tv since they are around they will be released soon?
I would appreciate comments. Thanks for the help.
If you are looking to spend $1000 to $1500, there is no reason to be concerned with OLED or 4K TVs. It is going to be a long time before those technologies are available for $1000. As to picture quality, it is doubtful that $1000 2013 sets are going to be any better than 2012 sets. They may have a few more smart features. The price per inch will continue to drop, as it has for years. But nothing radical. You could wait for all of the CES reports to come out and see if Sony or Samsung or Vizio or Sharp have announced a feature you have to have. If so, then you will have to wait a few months for those sets to hit the market.
Does anyone know why when using the optical out of the TV and the TV speakers are set to external and variable sound that the TV volume/muting has no effect?
My 55EX645 had a software update last night. Not sure what it did and can find no mention of it at the Sony Canada support page. Anyone have more information about this?
I have emailed Sony to ask.

I noticed this firmware update the other day as well. I thought I read on the web somewhere that it was to improve the stability/performance of some of the internet apps. Nice of Sony to officially keep us in the dark though!
