Where to Buy IR Remote 110 Volt Switch?

Hi All;

I'm looking at replacing my AVR with a used one. My old receiver has 2 switched 110 VAC outlets. When I turn on my amp, my DVD player, and Subwoofer, also switch on. It works great.

The replacement amp has no switched 110 V outlets. So I'll need a IR remotely controlled switch, to plug in my DVD player and Subwoofer.

Does anyone know where I can buy a simple IR remote on/off switch, that can handle 10 to 15 amps? Once I get this, I'll teach my MX500 remote to turn the switch on/off, so I'm only using 1 remote.

I did search on Ebay, and a few other places, but nothing suitable seems to pop up.

Any sources for this?

Thanks, Tom.

Hi DIY Guy;

This looks like the type of thing I'd like. So thanks for the link.

I did read a bunch of reviews on this item, and 2 problems were repeated a few times. 1., it worked for a while then quit altogether. 2., it reacts to any IR signal it sees, even if it's not meant for the switch.

So, I won't likely buy that one, but I appreciate the attempt.

Anyone else?

Tom.

You could also buy a "Smart Power Strip" with “Master+Slave” outlets. – You'd plug your receiver into the master outlet. The components that you then plug into the slave outlets would work much the same as when they were plugged into your receiver’s switched outlets.

Here are two different takes on Smart Power Strips. (One is also a UPS.)

Smart Strip SCG4

APC BE750G Power Saving Battery Back-UPS

They do occasionally go on sale. There are various other models and other brands too.

Oh yeah. – I forgot to say that, several years ago, I bought a “IR remote on/off switch”. (I’m pretty sure it’s the very same “HDE Infrared Plug Adapter Wireless IR Remote Converter” that’s linked to above.) After about two or three months, it just stopped working.

I know this is not what you're asking for, but here's a link to what seems to be an industrial-strength web/IP-controlled power strip - you'd need something other than the MX-500 to control it (like an iTouch + app), but I thought I'd post it just to provide an additional option:
