I just purchased the AVR 1700 as a replacement to the Onkyo HT-RC180 which had its 2nd HDMI board crash in the past 3 years (and I've given up on bothering to get it fixed). Received it on Friday 8/23 & used it over the weekend.
Thought this would be a decent budget replacement & seemed like it for a little while but on Sat/Sun it started shutting off for no apparent reason. At first I thought maybe it was overheated as it was in my media console & while there is clearance there, it isnt extremely well ventilated (as a side note...I thought this ran much cooler than the Onkyo but doesnt seem like it in my experience so far). I pulled it out of the media console & it is sitting literally on the floor in the open. While it feels cooler, this hasnt stopped it from shutting off randomly.
I checked out the manual & saw the note about "PROTECT" on the display indicating speaker wires touching the other polarity. But this message didnt pop up for me (no message is displayed actually) but I have checked my wires numerous times.
I disabled HDMI link (thinking some weird handshake issue perhaps), confirmed sleep timer is off, and have removed power multiple times.
Anything sound familiar? I really am having a hard time with the idea that its just a lemon but I suppose its possible. Otherwise its been a nice little avr (though not an opinion shared by my wife & kids so far ).
