Not to try and make any excuses for Lorne's shocking lack of use for Nasim this season (I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about a "change of career plans" from her in response), but she actually WAS IN THAT SKIT!
She was the "female grinch, made up with green skin and Dr. Seuss green hands", who pranced across the stage twice.
But yes, she was not in her "assigned role" as a dancer (along with the much-missed Abby Elliot).
But I did enjoy "Jacob, the Bar Mitzvah boy" on WU (portrayed wonderfully by Vanessa Bayer), as well as "the girl you don't want to start a conversation with at a party" (Cecily Strong) which is a character I laugh harder and harder at every time she does it. Her brilliant double-talk and clever malapropisms (not just silly drunk-speak) remind me of Norm Cross, and that's a good thing. This is growing to be maybe my favorite new female character in the post-Kristen era.
I also enjoyed "You're a rat bastard, Charlie Brown" because I can't possibly ever see enough of whole-cast pre-filmed versions of famous celebrity impressions (who can remember the opening "celebrities at a party" skit from a few years ago which was unbelievable). Bill Hader's Al Pacino is absolutely perfect and priceless, as is Jason's Phillip Seymour Hoffman. And Taran Killam's Michael Keaton had me laughing as well. Even Nasim had some small silly dancing bit in this skit (but aside from that her only talking lines in the whole show were when she announced the entry of Martin Short in "Royal Family Doctor", which was only a mildly amusing skit but I love Martin Short doing those kinds of bits).
They can retire "what's up with that" in my opinion. One-trick pony, including the entertaining but now tiresome Fred and Jason in the background.
And there was essentially zero (pretty much typical this whole season) for the new kids... Tim Robinson and Aidy Bryant. Jay Pharaoh's Kanye was a complete waste of time (thankfully that was his only appearance of the night), but I always love Alec Baldwin doing his Tony Bennett and can't get enough of it. Even Kate McKinnon only had one shot, in the Charlie Brown film (although she was hilarious).
I sure wish they'd figure out how to do the Khardashians again, even without Abby.
And Cecily from last week's wonderful porn stars bit to end the show... "some things never go out of style... ANAL". What a perfect deadpan delivery. Had me rolling.
