Saturday Night Live 2012-13 - Page 2

Checking in. An 'OK' introduction.
Looked like it was a rough night in the control room.

The Undecided Voter bit was great. Also enjoyed the Republican Tampon commercial as well as The Least Interesting Man commercials. Otherwise not as tight as last week's show.

The Strahan impression was good.

I agree. Probably my favorite skit of the night.

"....not as tight as last week's show."

Do consider that last week's show was the first of the season, with the whole off-season to write for. Also, they are doing Thursday night shows for 2 weeks. More writing, more rehearsals (even if those shows are taped). Noticed that Obama, Biden, and Romney were no-shows. Probably saved for the Thursdays. Last weeks show was a high bar to reach.
That being said, loved the tampon commercial. Some other gems also.

yeah and doing 2 shows a week can really make you stretch whatever material you have.
clearly not nearly as funny as last weeks.

If they can't, I think that's really unfair. Also, if men can't vote, I think that's as equally unfair.

Where's my power cord?

argh! I had to watch this week's episode on Hulu and that is just crap. They cut out multiple sketches, including the entire monologue. I don't understand why they do that. mad.gif

Pretty much anything that uses music gets cut. The monologue had music, as did at least one of the skits (the Beatles skit).

JGL really proves that this show lives and dies by the hosts (ditto for Seth McFarlane, BTW). When you've got a host who takes pride in their work and really makes an effort to become the characters in their skits, the quality of the episode goes way up. You can especially tell the good hosts by their eyes: if they are engaged in the skit, they're making eye contact with the other characters or the audience. If they're not, they are reading off the cuecards, and their comedic timing is horrible.

A good host can make or break a marginal skit.

I can't remember one single sketch outside of the cold open that JGL wasn't in. The dude was into the show, and you're right, he rarely appeared to be reading. Great stuff.

Agreed. Although, DeNiro and (especially) Walken are two notable exceptions.

these thursday night election weekend updates with seth are killing it.

both last week and last night were outrageously funny.

seth is a great comedy writer and performer.

I miss Kristen, but I'm glad she's gone. She probably would have played the woman you dont want to talk to at a party. I'm glad it was the new girl. I thought last week's was funnier, but this was stil really good. Anyone else find it odd that Lorne apparently let Casey Wilson go because she couldn't maintain an acceptable weight yet the new woman they added is obese? Looks like they're hoping to get a Melissa McCarthy type on the show, but so far she's come across as completely overmatched by everyone else. She's constantly reading cue cards, and just all around nervous. Hopefully she improves.
I thought the same thing, that Kristin Wiig would have played the girl you didn't want to talk to a party. But I was wishing it was. The new girl was mildly amusing (in my opinion). Kristin Wiig would have been better. There aren't many women as funny as Kristin Wiig was.

probably not - that was a bit the new girl probably brought with her to the show.

Saw this last night. This guy's Obama puts Pharoah's to shame.

I LOVE that guy. He has been on before as a horrible magician and a horrible animal expert. Hilarious.
An OK episode last night. I enjoyed it as a whole though.
Personally, I thought it was pretty much dreadful.

I don't think I cracked a smile once.

I enjoy the girls doing impressions, but overall the show was UN-FUNNY.

And Daniel Craig is definitely NOT FUNNY.

The season is young, but this was the worst so far.
Daniel Craig has no business hosting SNL. Not funny.
Craig didn't get much help from the writers. Most everything before the news was pretty awful (I guess the Bond girls bit was so-so) The last half-hour, long the province of the crazed comedy Michaels doesn't get, yielded a few yuks. Muse was okay.

As far as Phaoroh (and Moynihan) are concerned, I simply cannot understand. They dismiss Michaela Watkins after barely a year and they keep these two difficult to watch comedians. At least Kate McKinnon is showing real promise.
That was probably the weakest episode I have seen in years. Daniel Craig was clearly out of his element, but even worse was the writing. Just not funny at all. Ouch.
There were a lot of dud bits (guy who couldn't cat-call, spaceship, crazy girlfriend) but the opening was good as was the MSNBC bit, I loved it, but that might just be gloating.biggrin.giftongue.gif

BTW Weekend Update was excellent (more gloating tongue.gif ). But why did they have to bring the real Big Bird instead of a look alike who, I don't know, would have been FUNNY! I couldn't even hear his debate joke but I'm sure it was lame. Now I really wish they'd cut funding for PBS.

Muse proved their name, not quite muse-ic. First song weak, second song in the first thirty seconds CLICK

Overall a good show, but then again I had an excellent week. GLOAT GLOAT cool.gif
post #58 of 359
one of the worst SNLs ive seen in recent years
post #59 of 359
Finally finished it. The only parts I enjoyed were when they made fun of MSNBC (I'm a liberal btw), and most of Weekend Update. Loved the very first joke: "You gotta hand it to Romney...because Obama sure did." Hilarious. Sudeikis did an OK job as Matthews, but he's got nothing on Darryl Hammond. The new girl kinda did an OK Rachel Maddow, but she's not remotely close to Abbey Elliot's impression. Pharoah is better at Obama than Fred, but he's such a bad actor that it's not very fun to watch. The guy Jimmy Fallon uses for Obama is amazing. You can see him on Hulu from this past week in a skit about the debate. I'm also really starting to love the new girl that showed up last season. I forget her name, but she played the one Republican in the MSNBC skit. Actually that reminds me, I liked her Medium in Jersey skit. I can't believe they already are re-using the uninformed voter commercial.

I can. It makes complete sense to me that they would keep replaying it every show up until the election.

I enjoyed seeing it again.
