Just got Oppo 93 which I Love I'm Confused will Netflix Firmware for 5.1 Be Forthcoming or Not

I apologize if this question has perhaps been asked and answered but I'm a bit confused as I see a bunch of different answers throughout AVS . I just got a brand new Oppo 93 and I love the sound as well as speed for loading up and playing blu-rays. I just tested the Netflix feature and was shocked to not get 5.1 sound and thought something was wrong with my set up but then Googled and to my astonishment saw that 5.1 sound is currently not available for Netflix. Is this going to change in 2012 for Oppo 93 which apparently has now been deleted? If not then I plan to buy Roku assuming that has 5.1 sound. Any info is appreciated. Thank you.

Probably it is not going to happen. Netflix uses DD+ encoding. And if chipset manufacturer (MTK?) didn't license it from Dolby when they created SDK, then it will never be included for already sold units. But if they find a way to charge you for update... But do not hold your breath.

VUDU uses DD+ encoding also (and it's available on the BDP-93), so that has little to do with it. It comes down to some security features that the Oppo hardware is supposedly lacking, which discourages Netflix from updating it. Kind've ridiculous given the PS3 (which I know is a unique beast) surfaced in 2005 and supports the improved Netflix interface.
