I don't know how you define "great results". If you're goal is just maximum headroom, then stacking is the best option. However, (IMO), flatter frequency response across more seats is a much more useful goal. I would sacrifice a few dB of headroom for flatter FR, all day, every day. But hey, they're your subs... do with them whatever you want.
...but haven't you ever wondered "what if"?

What if.. what? What if I stacked my 3 Submersive HP's? Here's my FR now:Subs, no speakers, Audyssey XT32, 80 Hz crossover:Subs + Speakers, Audyssey XT32, HP Prgm 2:
If I stacked them in the front of the room, this would be my FR with +9 dB of headroom:Front:
I don't need the headroom. I'll take the flatter FR all day, every day.
