How to set up Gaming computer sound the right way?

I'm trying to setup two different sound devices, but have both plugged into the same onboard sound port. I have speakers, and headphones. But only one sound port. Its just onboard sound, no sound card. Problem is, just using the little adapter thing I have from radioshack, produces some bad sound quality. If you plug them both in at once.

You get some popping and crackling noises, and windows doesn't seem to like it much. How should I go about having them both plugged in, the RIGHT way? That will make it easy to switch back and forth.

Nobody? All the members on this site and nobody? Hmm this forum must be losing some of its former traffic

You might want to try in the HTPC sub-forum. I don't think many people monitor this section.

No front panel headphone jack? Often you can plug speakers into the line out, and the headphones into a headphone jack only when you want to use them. Both won't work great with a splitter because motherboard amps aren't very strong and the load can be pretty weird.

If you have an extra slot, put a sound card on the PC. They are very cheap on Newegg. You will get 5.1 capability also. If it is a laptop i think they make some usb sound cards also.

The Logitech THX Rated speakers are awesome ! I have a 2.1 set up and still am surprised on the lows from sub and speakers are clear !!! I can imagine the 5.1 set up even better. Just remember to look for the THX in info as they have different 2.1 and 5,1 systems sold. FYI IMO Creative sound cards ALWAYS crack and hiss , check out HT Omega, great cards. You might wanna wait on a card tho, these newer Mobos have really nice sound. GL
