Subs in rear corners of theater

Hi
My new dedicated theater is 16Ft Wide by 17ft deep (screen to rear wall)

I plan to place a sub in each rear corner behind the chairs pointing at the screen

Is this a good idea or must the subs be located on the screen wall?

Thanks for any advice

I believe the biggest consideration of not having it on the screen wall is localization if crossing higher than 80hz. Some find localization at 80hz, especially if running the subs hot. It may even measure best on the rear wall if you get the eq right, you will need measuring equipment to test this.

I would be curious to hear others comments on if this would be much less of a concern since you are running duals in opposite corners, filling the room more??

The big plus I can see would be the nearfield placement for a more visceral impact response.

I have considered this configuration myself if I plan to add a second sub at some point. I currently have an svs pc13 behind my front speakers up front. It measures best there, but looks out of place as I have to push my speakers out to fit it behind. I have considered the dual rears strongly over the past couple of years, but have yet to pull the trigger to try it.

I don't like sub placement exclusively behind me unless the crossover is lower than 80hz. The hotter you like to run the subs the lower frequency the crossover needs to be.

What about all four corners.

With some thing like this...x2.

I like the 4 corner subs but it just won't work in my theater. I don't want to ruin my screen wall. That is why I am left with the rear subs. I have a row of 5 curved seats so the subs will be more to the sides of each end seat in the corners so not directly behind the seats.

I just see everyone with the subs firing out toward the seats below the screen so that is why I am concerned.
