Does anyone know if the 20 in 4520 means anything, like are they planning to make this same unit until 2020? or did Denon roll out another new number system this year?
Making things trickier is that the 33xx line didn't even exist when you bought your 3808. It went 28xx > 38xx back then.
Starting with the xx10 models, Denon scrapped both the 28xx and 38xx tiers and put the 3310ci at an in-between tier, with the 4310ci effectively replacing the 3808ci.
The "20" doesn't mean anything as far as I know. Rather, the assumption is that it was a way to separate the "flagship" 4xxx level models, which aren't updated annually, from the "consumer" lineup which gets refreshed every year. For example, last year when the xx12's came out, everyone was asking when the 4312ci would be around. This way, the 4520, which is a high-level model has a longer lifecycle than the lower level models, isn't implicitly tied to a year.
