After reading Jerry's experience I can tell you I'll never buy a "B" stock Denon.

I've had my 4520 since November and haven't had any problems. So far it's been a fantastic receiver/prepro for me.

But "much richer" from 4311 to 4520? No offense, but I'll have to attribute that to some factor other than the AVR upgrade itself. It may be settings, a fortuitous mic position array during Autosetup, auditory memory or other psychoacoustic factor.

You don't believe that DTS-NEO:X, AL32+ processing and 32bit DACs that the 4520 has over the 4311 might be a reason for the improved performance?

While the Neo-x processing may be quite a bit better than what was previously available. many people attribute the "sonic improvement" which is claimed for the more sophisticated output drivers to be primarily due to "expectation bias". Certainly 32bit DACs, by themselves, can't produce an audible improvement. The improvement might be measurable, perhaps, but quality 24-bit DACs already have distortion and noise values which are far below the level of audibility.

Well, I owned the 4311 for several years before upgrading to the 4520.  I still have the 4311 in my bedroom.  I agree with SoM.  Using superlatives to describe the sonic difference between the two AVR's, assuming everything else is the same, is a bit of an exaggeration.  You can't use NEO:x in the comparison, because that would be apples to oranges.  And I don't think I can actually hear the difference in the DAC's.

 

I prefer to say that both AVR's sound pretty darn good.

Popped up on the TV that a Denon Update was available last night. I went ahead and clicked "Yes install". It posted that it would take 10 minutes. It updated " Main" ,then "Sub" ,then Either". Sorry to bother you again.
After a short company tour i tried again to reactivate my 20 kg door stopper.

This is what i see after switching on:
Main - 10min
Updating - Arrows from left to right
Counter goes down to 0min and immediate to 3min
After this the Arrows changes to 0%.
This goes up to 14% and then the whole thing restarts or i get an error message. (Updating Fail 14 or ConnectionFail38)

Nothing interrupts this loop.
I tried:
holding Info + Back and Switch On
holding Up + Down and Switch On
holding Status + Option and Switch On
The Power button doesn't function to enter standby, so i pulled the power plug for each try.
After inserting the power plug i see the Main 10min immediate, it simply ignores every button press.

Any last idea before i send it to service?

What does "Installer Locked" mean?  I went into the GUI and made sure that Setup Lock wasn't turned on.  Any ideas?

One would assume that if a custom installer installed the AVR they could lock the settings so no one could change them.

No custom installer has ever touched my AVR, and I have launched the web interface countless times and never received this message before.  Any other ideas?

There are a number of special sequence codes that when selected place the unit into a specific mode. This mode as guessed simply allow an insfaller to lock the settings to ensure the customer cannot change them, which generallly requires another trip to the customer's home. The easiest way to get out of these modes is to do a microprocessor reset.

In reference to the audible capabilities of the 4311 versus the4520


Some people (mainly 4311 owners) just can't stand the thought that something that has an actual hardware improvement (4520) can be nothing more than "just a cosmetic change".
'The 4520 has superior "sound hardware" than what is in the 4311 so live with it!

Joerod noted that the 4520 was an audibly superior sounding avr than the 4311.


Had a similar comment by a forum member in Australia.

Some people just can't fathom reality !!!

would anyone know how to get my 3313 blu-ray player to work with my denon 4520 remote app, I go to player view and nothing happens on the player. Any help would be Great Thanks The AVR works Excellent with Remote App.

It gets more interesting, JD.  I tried a soft reset, but that did not clear the issue.  Then, as you suggested, I did a processor reset.  That cleared the Installer Lock.  I was able to load my most recent save, and then I reloaded the saved measurements file that I used in a calibration earlier today.  Finally, after everything was back to normal, I was able to do a successful network save, so I am now protected again.

 

However, when I try and launch the web interface now, the "Installer Locked" status is back!  eek.gif

 

I called Denon TS, and was told that the only people who could help are the members of the "CI" support team, which is on the East Coast, and is only open until 5pm EDT.  So, I'll call them on Monday to try and get to the bottom of this.  I'll report back when I have an answer.

Maybe you can check if the "maintenance mode" is activated in the network settings of the AVR? I don't know if it could be related but it is worth trying.

Does anyone have the issue of OSD not displayed on the screen? The OSD shows when switched to bluray cd sat etc but does not show when on media player.

I am not sure I understand what the Maintenance Mode is.  My settings are Web Access Port=10443, Port Mapping=Auto.

I have the same combination and was told ( local distributor support) that the only way to get it to work was to use the HDMI Control function (AVR-4520 Manual Page 102, 3313 manual page 35). Configure it for both devices based on the instructions provided in the manual.
I tried it and it seemed to work, but it conflicted with other HDMI devices I had connected to my receiver ( e.g. Cable ) and so I disabled it again. I do not undestand why it is not recogised as a separate "discrete" network device. Then they could be properly linked together and controlled by the app. Would also be nice if the Denon App was a proper Ipad app( Iuse use an Ipad) , rather than an Iphone one.
