Thanks, Tom

That is a lot more clear. Here's what I got:

The funny part is I found another calculator on the Panasonic website and measured out 15' 5" for placement, yesterday. So I should be good!

Except now that I look closer at it I see my screen size wasn't set correctly and it should actually be 18 ft!

Hopefully I can get the contractor to move the outlet back a couple of feet. I know they are getting annoyed at all my constant changes.....

Came home from work yesterday evening to this scene:

Projector will be moved back to 18', contractor just needs to move outlet back 2 rafters.

Today they spent sorting out the wiring and putting on clips. Somehow I screwed up and even after the extra order that arrived today we are still short. The wall over the stone doesn't really need clips and we can move them but still may be short.....doh!

Rest of the afternoon was for insulation install, will deal with the clips tomorrow. Also some pictures of the conduit I ran. One going to the riser for extra HDMI for computer or gaming. Second run to the projector. Contractor also ran power line under the floor for the riser.

Last 2 days were for installation, finishing wiring, and starting drywall. Also have the requisite plywood_under_the _projector!

You're moving along quickly! Everything progressing ok?

So far, yes! And not me, the contractors at this point. When it gets to my part (stage, riser, columns) it'll likely be a bit slower.

I did mess up a little on the wall behind the screen. Was going to put a stage in but forgot to ask them to move up the outlets. They are 8" off the floor so I guess it will be a 6" stage....

You can still have the outlets moved up.  Just get a couple of old work boxes and extend the wiring to the height you want.

Well actually drywall is already up. If I were to change another thing mid-stream the contractor would kill me.

Obligatory painting picture! I'm using the same can lights the BIG and Damelon used in Bacon Race. Here's the primer shot:

Amazing how blue the grey looks.

Green glue sighting!

And in the adjoining room (to be the wife's new lounge) sliding glass door out and new door put it:

Mudding & taping almost done (I think the drywall guy is coming back today?)

Also question for the collective wisdom of the forum - Has anyone ever left the stage wooden? I'd like to incorporate wood features in the theater as we live in Redwood county and was just reading some articles on using plywood for flooring. Thought it could apply to the stage as well if I use a dark stain, like mahogany. Any concerns about light reflection from screen?
Great progress on your theater.

You will get reflections of both light and acoustics off of a solid surface stage.

Just something else to consider. wink.gif

How about if the plywood layer is doubled with green glue or roofing felt in between?
Then if you are inside the stage it will quieter. Why not compromise and do a wood bull nose edge and carpet the rest.

What Big said...His knowledge in all things Home Theater is vast and his advice is practical, functional and aestheticly very nice.

Wow...that sounded like I'm sucking up for something. biggrin.gif

Geez BIG, leave it you to inject logic and physics into the discussion......

What is a bull nose edge? (I guess I can google it)
Thread Starter
Ah I see, but does the bull nose edge go on after the carpeting?
They go on well before carpert. There are lots of pictures of the process in the great Cinemar project thread. Here is one I grabbed of the riser but the same thing was done for the stage.

Ah yes, I had seen those before, thanks BIG.

OK last 2 days contractor was installing the soffit. Some good and bad - Bad that I couldn't paint the front of the soffit before they put up the light tray today. Good that they built it given my noobish carpentry skills. I'll just have to paint around the tray....

I helped to putty the holes and just finished sanding the light channel

The contractors will be back Monday to prime the walls, ceilings and soffit. Electrical work will be finished and then doors will go in & then their part is done! Then it's on me to do the stage, riser, screen wall, equipment closet.... BIG I may need to schedule some "therapy" sessions soon!

Also a BIG thanks to Damelon & BIG as I've "borrowed" many of their ideas including the entire soffit.

The wife and I are off to HD tomorrow (the closest is 1.5 hours away) to get light switches, plates, some paint samples, and other miscellaneous items. (And I'll prob just pick up that table saw and plunge circular saw...)

Got some good stuff at HD yesterday. Spent the day today putting up the molding and then patching the holes. Also placed some more conduit for speaker wires.

Last couple days a bit going on - Monday was for priming the room and installing doors. (There was a game of musical doors....) Today, my day off, I picked up sconces, helped to measure out can placement in light channel which Billy (my main contractor) installed throughout the day.

Wife supervising:

I also made a dump run after demolishing the bar in the wife's lounge area.

This:

Became this:

Then picked up paint for ceiling, another for light channel. For those looking for a substitute for Mouse Ears Black I got Tricorn Black @ Sherman Williams. I showed the paint guy the can lid for Mouse Ears Black supplied by aaron (I believe) in another post and he said the formula is identical. Sure looks black on the walls. Spent the rest of the night painting the soffit front and part of the ceiling until I found out I did not have rollers for the ceiling. (Doh!)

Finished first 2 coats on ceiling last night - too tired for pics!

Gone all day today and Billy finished electrical it appears - no more crappy halogen lamp for light!

Switch 1:
Front and Back Cans

Switch 2:
Side cans

Switch 3:
Sconces

Switch 4:
Will be blue rope light - not yet installed. I want to put another layer (or 2?) on the ceiling first

Lumber run yesterday, they even had some pre-curved plywood!

Also the rope light came last week but didn't come with the clips (Doh!) which are on their way. Does anyone have a good reference on how to cut these? Or know where I can find a "professional erector" as the instructions so helpfully explain?

And last night started work on stage. Got the initial framing done (by hand, BIG! I have no framing gun...) but need the padding that goes between the wall and the frame.

OK, finished the stage last night. I know this is probably not a big deal to many but this is not something I've ever done before. Makes me more confident about doing the riser and other things that need to be built. Thanks to BIG for the encouragement!

Today was a nice leisurely day at the beach.....NOT! Well, there was sand involved: (44 bags worth!)

Wife and stepson helped lug it in otherwise my back would have been shot.

Here is the stage all prepped and ready for sand:

And the first bag is in!

And the last

Stage is full. I was just going to stuff the front part w/ insulation but had a few bags left over. Anyone think this is a problem?

Then time for power tools, lots of measuring & cutting until we get this:

Now I have seen others (notably Bacon Race) where they laid down roofing felt between the layers of plywood. I only have 1/2" to the bottoms of the outlets. (poor planning on my part)
Is there any benefit to adding a layer of 3/8" plywood with GG between the layers? (The current layer is 3/4" plywood)
