There is just no way to determine that for you without you actually seeing them first hand in your own theater.

Put it this way, if it were not for eshift benifits on the rs4810 in "my" setup, I was about to buty the Marantz VP-11S3 that just sold on eBay for 4800.00

Yeah...you are right about first timers being lucky...9 years ago my first projector was an Nec vt540, then a plus piano $6500 then a Mitsubishi hc900u $3200. The first few projectors were disgusting black level wise...my gripe has always been projectors fading into grey in dark scenes...it just looks really washed out.

Now newbies can by a jvc for $3000 mark which would provide close to cutting edge images not possible on projectors costing $1 million dollars 6 years ago. Such is the beauty of technology and the benefit of being a late adopter. The late bird catches the best worms !

Will the new batch of jvc projectors use the same bulb as the rs45 series or is this DC series a new design? Is the 003 bulb a DC ?

Its a completely different bulb and a completely different bulb design. It is unclear at this time whether its a AC or DC bulb. At Cedia, certain JVC booth people said it was a DC bulb. However, at this point JVC is no longer verifying that the new bulb is DC. My guess is the US guys don't know for sure and will have themselves to await the arrival of production machines.

Have you actually seen/compared the 11S3 to your RS55? I ask because I used to own a Sharp 20K DLP and my buddy the 11S3 and we'd always end up arguing over very minute differences between the two, but when I jumped to the RS50 we were both blown away at how much better it was over our older DLP's (and we know how much better the 55 is over the 50... with or without MPC).

I would be very skeptical that an 11S3 could be in the same ballpark as the 4810. biggrin.gif

I have not seen the Marantz VP-11S2 (not 3, sorry I missed typed - there is no 3) in about 2.5 years. I just remember it was the only projector I found no objectionable flaws with, but again that was on a 1.3 gain 92" screen.

It's hard to let go of the fond memories.

I know I did find the 2D picture of the Samsung A900b to be superior to the Sony VPL-95ES and the JVC RS55. (Something about a super high end lens that just takes the picture to another level of realism)

But for any dark material the JVC and Sony still would easily win over the Samsung or the Marantz.

Problem with the Samsung was the brightness. Max about 500 calibrated lumens.

I don't have problems with the brightness of my Sammy 800 and seymour xd 126" combo. In fact, after I added the Darbee I would have been totally happy with it I believe for several more years......

Problem is that I briefly had a RS40 and, when I watched the opening of Avengers on each machine, the JVC picture was much more real to me, the contrast the contrast the contrast!!

I've got the 4810 on preorder now and the Sammy is going into the kids theater.

Just recv'd an email from a friend of mine who says he heard from his buddy who works at AVAD on the west coast (I know, blah, blah, blah... "a friend of a friend told me..."), who told him they just recv'd their shipping manifest confirmations from JVC and should start see their allotments in about 10-14 days!

Wonder how long it'll take AVAD to ship the 4810's to AVS (mqybe another week or so?). Looks like right around the same timings as I remember last year. Take it with a grain of salt but thought it was worth mentioning. smile.gif

Looking over the DLA-RS4810 Owner's Manual, I noticed an input in the rear of the projector labeled "Remote". It appears to be a 3.5mm jack, but is without much in the way of explanation. Does this accept a wired IR input signal such as from a URC MRF station? Does anyone know is the jack for 2-conductor or 3-conductor plugs (to also supply power to an external IR receiver device)? If so, what are each of the pin-out connections?

Also noticed from the tech drawings that the cool air intake port/filter on the bottom is situated immediately adjacent to one of the two front hot air exhaust ports. One word -- backdraft -- especially for ceiling mounted installations. Maybe this explains some of the bulb overheating problem history on this chassis design? Designed by the same engineers that built nuclear reactors atop an active major fault line, perhaps.

I guess this does show than some people prefer different things in pq. I had a Samsung A900B and sold it to upgrade to a JVC RS40. Sure the Samsung was a little sharper but to my eyes the contrast, black level, and brightness of the RS40 made it a very nice upgrade over the Samsung. Before the JVC I was always a DLP guy and still have one to watch HD sports on but for movies I am hooked on JVC's black levels. My JVC has great convergence and is very sharp which helps as well.

Well I'm like 2 or 3 on the list, so I should get one on first shipment and post a review similar to the VPL-VW95ES.

I will probably be keeping for a whole year... smile.gif (if the brightness is close to the RS45 from last year.)

I think so, seriously...

I really really like e shift on my "Monster Truck Screen" screen.

I would only upgrade to a 4k and would not be able to afford an over 10k projector in the foreseeable future.

Actually a member last year had theirs a day before thanksgiving, but the rest received ours 10 days later

Yeah I reserved my 4810 recently so I am most likely far down the list. Only hope is that they will get an X55 locally earlier so I can get that instead.

Should not be a long wait, once they start shipping. Last year we received our first shipment on 12/5 and by the end of the month, we had the whole shipment.

I got a Draper Clarion 148" 2.35:1 Matt white (1.0 gain) and a Panamorph UH380 lens. Anxious to see how bright the image will be on that big screen. Tried looking at some different calculators but it get a little fuzzy when using the lens. I am guessing it will be about 20-25% brighter than using the zoom method? And according to Aussie Bob II's calculations the pincushion should be around 0.75" at worst.

I said I got everything else in my theater ready.. I guess the only thing that is "ready" is the screen. The rest is still in boxes.

Just checked out the link to your theater SOWK. I shat a brick!! Wow that is awesome. Kudos to you sir! Mine is pretty bare bones, but hopefully when I got everything in there I will do some acoustic treatment to ceiling/walls etc. Will see how it sounds when it's all said and done.

As I recall AVAD is a JVC distributor that supplies many small and mid sized retailers. However AVS buys directly from JVC and not thru a distributor. Perhaps one of the AVS sales guys will confirm.

I have a very small room and my projector will have a max throw of about 11.5 feet. I don't have a lot of leeway and want the biggest 2.35 screen I can get. Is it safe to assume the throw ratio is going to be the exact same as last years models or should I wait to get the projector before buying a screen?
