It probably was the same one. They most likely wanted to ensure mbart got a decent one due to multiple issues with previous ones and repacked in the different box in the first place. I'm very interesting to see pictures if the vertical banding.... Since if this was hand picked by Sony, I want to see what they consider as "as good as it gets" since they knew if they sent one with the same or more banding then his previous, mbart probably would have sent this one back as well.

Just curious, do you get banding from all sources? DVD, cable, dish, or streaming? And does it vary from source to source, one worse than the other? I have the 55" version and just love it. Slight DSE between scenes but that's about it. My PQ is so out of this world until I see 4K, that I love the set.

Hope this one is the one for you.

Every source has the same amount of banding due to the fact that it's an actual physical defect in the panel itself during the piecing together process from what I gathered.

The vertical bands are still there, just not as bold as the previous versions.

Mbart11, that is without a doubt the least amount of banding I have ever seen in a 65HX950. Persistence definitely paid off.

Tad jeolous I must say tongue.gif mine has the exact same bands, but a slightly more pronounced center one I think. You will really have to be looking for those to see on static solid backgrounds like sky, desert, underwater etc. but I can tell already you will most likely still see those during panning sequences with sports or blurays. Just nature of the beast with 65s. Sacrifice banding for size.

But I don't think you would ever get one better than that one smile.gif

Yeah, I'm definitely happy to be done with it! They're still there for the bright panning scenes, but it's not screaming at me and drawing my attention like before. The extra 10" makes a huge difference so I'm relieved I got one that I can definitely live with.

its nice to see some talk about something other than banding and dse...i have it turned on while watching 3d..I cant tell you why but its a must while watching 3d. i have it off for hd too, but the pop it gives 3d is crazy. does anyone know why/how reality creation affects 3d. imo you have to have it turned on while watching 3d..

I turn mine on for 3D also. For whatever reason I have mine turned on for hd sources also. The amount is anywhere from 5 to, I think one time like 52, but averaging anywhere from 12 to 38. I have the sharpness set at 65, and find that from 0-100 there is very little effect. Sometimes I have had it at 98. This is all so subjective though, that it's hard for me to know if my panel is different than yours or not. Are you guys talking 55 or 65, because I know that would make a difference.

Anybody purchase this TV after coming from a Samsung xxES8000? I'm getting my ES8000 refunded by Samsung, and considering this for a replacement.

Un-freakin-believable what I just had to go through with Sony un-support staff to get 2 sets of polarizing filters for the 250 glasses i got with my tv. 15 min for the first "specialist (of what i have no idea)", dropped call. 15 min for the second "specialist (ditto)", to tell me i needed to be transferred to a technical support specialist. 5 min to get transferred to that specialist. After all the confirmation crap for the 3rd time, now came the "what problems are you having watching 3d" for the second time. After explaining the blurry picture, crosstalk, no 3d picture when i tilt, or move my head a little, and can only watch for 20 min at a time, then 10 min have gone by because they have to keep putting me on hold and checking on who knows what, then start to tell me i have to change some settings on my tv. Thats when I unfortunately lost it. It was like they were playing games with me, because no one can be that stupid. They acted like they had never heard of the polarizing filters, then it was a polarizing filter for the tv, and on and on. I just had to stop them at this point and in a very unpleasant tone and attitude (i feel bad now) i said just stop. I'm not going to do anything with my tv. I then asked "if I was the only person that has asked for the filters" and they said "no". No kidding. I then said "so this is a documented problem and your playing games with me on the phone", "well are you going to send me the filters or not". After my meltdown it was another 10 min of "are you still there, my computer is really slow, i'm sorry". Finally "ok i've taken care of theat for you sir, you should have the filters in about 5-10 days. Where do they find these people? What is this world comming to? I have no idea.

Sorry for the rant, that's one of the areas i can't seem to tolerate, especially when i feel i'm getting the run-around. I'm breathing now.

Regards.

Brandon, I think there are a few people on here that have had that model, I'm guessing someone willl chime in soon. I had the pn version.

I always keep on going back to "Cinema 2." Even for 3D, I've been just leaving it on Cinema 2 now as well. I find it very similar in my viewing environment to the THX cinema mode on the 65VT50 I had for awhile, as well as ISF night on my 65VT30.

They are in the Philippines. It's the new India and they are not very helpful. Sad you had that happen, but I also had the same thing last week. I got nowhere with my case unfortunately, but I've filed a complaint with the BBB. Sony has so many jobs overseas and they outsource manufacturing, and quality control has slipped.

Honestly, it's gonna be a long hole before I upgrade TVs again as it's a huge PITA. And when that time comes, if its still LCD, I may just get a cheap vizio. No point in paying for poor service and products that require multiple replacements at this price point. But these companies don't learn until a few years later when customers don't return to buy new sets from them again. Just look at Samsung, I had my last tv ensure I wouldn't buy a new one.

From my experience..... the only home theater/electronics manufacturer/company that actually cares about their buyers is Oppo out of the products I own. Truly first class company.

Never owned one, but I'm dumping my PS3 systems because I don't use them for games and just Blu Rays. I've seen a lot of good feedback on them too. Be curious though on this BBB I just filed as I just got my confirmation email from NY. Companies today like to weasel out of stuff too easily. Gonna start researching Oppo. Thanks for the reminder.

One of the most underated features is the 1.2 zoom which really increases picture size on 2:35 framed movies without losing that much on the sides and more importantly no perceptible loss of detail or clarity. Truly an astounding feature.

Also for those who own a ton of DVDs, enable 1080/24p DVD playback, turn on the noise reduction to around +2 and bar none, you have the best DVD upscaling of any player on the market. Keep in mind, if you don't have DNR on, the much heralded marvell qdeo chip is not in use.

I have the oppo also, i had the 83 and now the 93. Then again, they are out of California, no? Ah yes, one of the components i don't have to worry about.

what exactly are you referring to when you say DNR. I would hate to think i haven't been using it all this time. Though i doubt it. Does anyone know if qdeo chip in the oppo is different than the qdeo chip in my pioneer receiver?

Hi all, I have had my HX950 ISF calibrated and as I have upgraded my AVR, I have changed inputs to utilise the ARC.

I went to copy my settings over from hdmi 2, to hdmi 1, however for some strange reason, for Picture Mode, I can only select ‘Cinema 1’, or ‘Cinema 2’. No option for Custom. Any ideas, what’s happened here?

I think you need to select "general" under scene select for custom to be one of the options. It sounds like you are in "movie" as they only have two settings, cinema 1 and cinema 2.

Hi Im new to the forum. I have been doing some research because I want to get myself an HX950. I live in South Africa and would have to import the panel as its only avaialable in the US. My question is: Will all the features of this panel work in South Africa? And will it work with South African devices like Blu Ray players etc. and video sources like cable set top boxes. Isnt there some sort of issue like we had in the old days between PAL and NTSC? SA is a PAL country...

Thanks

Add Oppo to your system and you''ll never look back, they are the best company for both product and Customer concern ( I wouldn't even call it CustSvcbecause they go beyond that) I don't believe I've ever read a negative report or posting regarding Oppo.

Just be sure to order it from a European country that uses the PAL system, and you shouldn't have a problem. You can also check at www.SonyStyle.com and request that info from them for a positive answer.

I did post my thoughts in the 929 thread

Darbee 5000 up and running and it does add PQ not a super increase in PQ, but definitely an increase, but in my opinion every bit of PQ counts

It adds depth and sharpness the image is crisper it's almost like it takes a haze off the image ? if you can understand that, it is difficult to explain, see the results here:

http://darbeevision.com/gallery drag your mouse across the image for example of results

.
And the price I got it for made me a happy camper.....

These are the questions I posed to cmay91472 via PM. He was very helpful. Feel free to answer them yourself. I'm considering the 55" HX950.

So, I had a few questions:

1) In overall, general terms, are you happy with the picture quality (especially the black level improvements) and do you feel it was an upgrade from the ES8000 or a lateral move?

2) Banding any worse in comparison to the ES8000, better or the same?

3) Watch much 3D? Cross-talk significantly worse than the ES8000? I don't watch much 3D, just curious.

4) Any issues with the reportedly reduced viewing angle on the HX950 compared to the ES8000?
