What would be a good choice to power four of these? Two dual opposed.
if you are going to put them in sealed with roughly 4 cubic feet or so per driver, somewhere around 1000 watts or so per driver.

if you can wire them for 2 ohms per driver, then an ep4000 or inuke3000, which both output a real 2000 watts or so would work fine. one amp per pair of drivers.
Ok thanks. I was going to use the Daytons but since I already have two ep4k's I will use the SI's instead.

Edit. I'll order 4 dual 4ohm then correct? Toile two dual opposed at 4 ohms each

Is that possible with two 2ohm DVC drivers?

the SI's come in both 4ohm and 2 ohm DVC configurations. you can wire the dual 4ohm DVC to 2ohms. in my case, im doing two dual opposed boxes so ill wire each dual 4ohm driver into 2ohms each then together to make a 4ohm load into each box.

Edit: wire each driver into 2ohms then together to make 4ohms per cab

Are these drivers suitable for downfiring?

Yes.

"Is that possible with two 2ohm DVC drivers?"

no. with dual 2 ohm coils, the driver can be wired for 1 ohm or 4 ohms.

....Hey!

I assume you are wondering how popalock got one...

Not to subvert popalock's posting, but based on the Small Northeast DIY GTG thread, he has a prototype of the SI-18. That shot is also on post #71 of that thread.

Just came across this thread. I read it all. I am sorry I missed all the excitement. I told Josh I purchased a few of these a few weeks back. I actually only wanted to find a cheap replacement for my more than tired drivers in my Definitive Technologies PF1800s. ****t

Considering that the cheap Eminence driver DefTech used in your PF1800's had something like 3mm or 4mm xmax, you just walked into a massive, massive upgrade.

Yeah.... I saw that right after I posted. tongue.gif

Subverter!

j/k...

I thought I'd post it up here for the relevance factor... The second prototype should be in hand by the weeks end, so expect some real world / in room Dual Opposed SI vs HO testing...

If all would have gone as initally planned, the comparoson would have happened last weekend... Meh, a few days delay never hurt anything though. Check back on that DIY GTG thread that Beer mentioned above for test resutls.

Austin, I need Nick's digits. I might be able to shed some more light on this come Thursday evening...

You are right about that. I have had those drivers out of the box before and they are just a pro driver with a roll surround. Nioce for the time, but now they are not even close to what technology offers today. I will probably have issue with the surround and the grill cloth, but that will have to be addressed when the drivers are mounted.

Keep cranking,

Robert

Yep. I bet they are going to be a nice addition to any rig. I saw these things the first day that it was posted on the forum. I had been reading about SI on there site about six months ago. What a coincidence that this driver we are looking at would come out soon after. It seems to have a bunch of nice features and it looks good also. I think you made a good choice.

Keep cranking,

Robert

My gosh.... With so many people scooping these up in large quantities, I wonder how much stock they have left?

Basing my assumption from the few members I've seen here and at HTS already scoop up 4-8 at a time...

No isht...

I think I might have to throw caution to the wind, pull my Alpha Dog card, and scoop up 8 myself just to be safe. Any eastcoasters that can't make it out to your spot to give the prototypes a test run next week will have to swing by my place for a demo... At least I haven't seen anyone else on the eastside plotting to scoop these up... Everyone seems to have already jumped on the HO's!
I scooped up 2 18" D2s over the weekend! I am in upstate NY. I can't wait to get my hands on them. I suppose I'll have to decide on what kind of enclosure I want to build, and...buy an amp still.
I'm seriously considering loading the 4 big bass cannons with these.

You should! At these prices you could even double that.

And I'm seriously considering ordering 8-9 of these guys. Oh boy. redface.gif
post #268 of 1716
800w between 0-30 should do it.
Looks like as a group we were collectively deprived of being able to purchase reasonably priced 18's for too damned long! biggrin.gifI bought 8 of them as well 2 weeks ago
