It is crazy how much we put into this hobby. I know how you feel about putting them up for sale. I have a pair of speakers I will never be able to sell. smile.gif

Austin, I know how you feel man!!!! I felt the same way when I sold one of my Submersives. eek.gif
post #753 of 1715
So now I want one of these (to start). I love my Submersive, but why not add a dual opposed 18 in the meantime for half the price biggrin.gif?

Where are the best places to go to have a box built? I already emailed the jb guy, but I have a feeling he's gonna get slammed with requests. I figure I would start with one dual opposed box, and if I liked it, I will get another and sell my SubM. Or I could keep all 3.

Yeah, such a good product it's hard to let go. If I was space limited and had to worry about WAF, they would still be my top choice.

Where are you located? Anyone in the VA area that needs a box built can reach out to me as well. I do it for the fun of it, but it aint free either...lol

I haven't followed along too closely, but why aren't you just keeping the LMS-U's and just adding the SI's with them?

I am in NC and could help out with the build out, since I am already doing 4 of my own and need to get some more sheets of ply, I could scoop additional if I needed.

I definitely would!

I texted him and told him he should make a dual-opposed coffee table out of them.

Amiright? Eh...... eh!!

I totally understand the decision and I think it's a great move!
2x LMS compared to 16 SI18's, is no contest!

That's why my 4x 21's have been on sale for almost a month now.
If nobody buys them then I'll keep them. I'm asking a lot for the 4 and if they sell I'll buy 20x SI's and blow my house down.

I would rather have 20x SI18's then 4x 21's any day of any week! biggrin.gif

Guys - Is anyone else considering a ported build with these? I'm thinking it would be cool for a change. I've been playing with some models:

Ported in 17hz tune in 6.5 cubes vs. sealed 4 cubes, both with 1000 watts:

19 hz tune ported vs. sealed single driver - around a 6db gain at tuning point:

I've been considering it. I actually asked this question on the other forum yesterday. My concern was not wanting a gigantic box, but I could probably swing 6.5 cubes!
wow. thats a lot of output from one $200 driver in a box that size

Agree'd. I have the room to do it, but don't think I want to lug 2 20cf boxes behind my screen wall, lol.

Nope. But if I were... I wouldn't build one in a small an enclosure as that. Yikes dude!

These are made to be used LLT style.

Yeah, it's not too bad at all in that size. You can actually drop the size of the enclosure down to 6.25 without a noticeable drop in efficiency. In that size, factoring in displacement for the driver, ports (3 each of 3x22), and some bracing we're looking at a sample size of 22w X 25h x 27d. In this design you can apply around 1200 watts while keeping excursion under 20mm. You would definitely need to run a HPF under 19hz though.

If you had the room to bump the box size up to 9cubes, you do pick up a bit over 2db at port tune area, still keeping excursion under 20mm. As an example the box size would be something like 23w x 30h x 30d. That is relatively enormous IMO considering the size of the other option.

Dang, dual opposed sealed is continuing to look like the best option considering space and the inexpensive cost of these drivers!

i am doing 12 cu.ft dual driver enclosure that seems to model well both as vented and closed. I am thinking of doing vented with option to close the port later on if i do not like it for some reason or when i upgrade the amp to take full advantage of the sealed.

the following is with 600W signal (all I can do with single NU3000 channel) , vented is tuned to 15Hz.

Yep. That or a proper LLT vented alignment.

WTH?!? So Fedex just came and dropped off 3 out of 7 of my drivers. The other 4 are apparently MIA. frown.gif

I did a 6.5 cube model tuned to 17 Hz about a week ago.. in this thread.. no one commented on it at the time.

Well actually I think those screengrabs are from 7.0 cubic feet but it's pretty similar. I also compared them to some sealed models.

Why compare to 4 cubic feet sealed though? That is below the recommended size.
