New Radio Shack SPL?

I will need an SPL meter to calibrate my HT room using REW. Most people say to pick one up at RS or ebay. Both of these appear to have same model number but are obviously very different. Which one should I get?

....or one of these from ebay:

I do not think there are any significant differences in performance between them. There are plenty of cal tables around for the older model and it should be cheaper so I would probably do that. If you decide to get deeper into it you'll end getting a calibrated mic, preamp and software to run it all anyway, and the SPL meter will still be a useful, fun tool to have around ("See how loud Daddy is when he yells at brother!" smile.gif ).

The "cal tables" are pretty useless unless you plan to use your meter with software that makes use of them.

I actually prefer the even older version with the analog meter. I've never liked trying to visually integrate a changing numeric display, and the bargraphs just aren't easy to read as a real meter. The numeric display is kind of useless for anything that's not a relatively steady state test signal. Fortunately that's what you'll be using in your HT.

Does REW make use of these tables?

Radio Shack meter worked great for me. Instead of buying online but from RS, if you dont like it you can always return it.

Unfortunately no RS in Canada. I think I'll try the older model from ebay.

Thx

Will they ship to Canada? Can you drive south and get one?

I might consider doing that if I felt that the newer model was better. Nothing I have seen so far would suggest that is the case.
