It just occured to me that 4k upscaling could bring the same aggrivation that DVD upscalers did. Upscaling DVD players were not created equal, some did it well, where the vast majority sucked(thats a techy term).
Could we be facing the same headache when it comes to selecting a BD player capable of 4k upscaling? Or is it so standardized that the end results should be pretty much the same(standard enough to let the displays take care of the conversion)? I have a hard time believing that could be the case, especially when it comes to upscaling DVDs all the way to 4k. 1080p to 4k might be a simple trick, but I'll bet we run into problems when letting the display or a $100 player upscaling to 4k. Of course the easy/safe solution will likely be to get the new Oppo, as they originally made a name for themselves by having a top flight DVD upscaler, and still do in the 93 and 95.
