I went today set on getting a new sharp 70" 240hz tv. I had looked at the picture before and loved how big the screen was and had my heart set on it, but then I get to hhgregg and see a 64" plasma with an amazing picture. The sales guy said not to get a plasma; that the 70" sharp was the way too go, but now I am terribly confused. So I left without a tv and am now back to doing research so any help will be appreciated. And actually the Samsung plasma they had there was the e550 model and not even their newest one so I really don't know what to do.

If you were prepared to spend $3300 on a TV, the best TV for that price would be a Panasonic 65VT50, 65GT50 or Samsung 64E8000. That lesser model Samsung isn't really comparable to the specs of the 70" Sharp.

But yeah, that Sharp LED isn't bad but it certainly doesn't compare to the plasmas for that price. The plasmas blow it away with motion, color and black levels.

He probably said to get the LED because HHGregg doesn't sell the better Panasonic or Samsung plasmas. I checked their website and none of them came up. He works on commission and wants your sale, he's not looking to make the best recommendation for you, since he doesn't have the best TVs.

Do yourself a favor and go and read up on TV reviews on CNET or on here and buy a panasonic plasma from Best Buy or Amazon. Or at the very least do a little more research so if you do decide to stick with your original choice of a 70" Sharp, you can at least have more knowledge of your choices.

I used to sell these things daily, and that Sharp doesn't hold a candle to the VT50

Yeah I was disappointed when I got home and saw they didn't carry the 7000 or 8000 series. I'll do some more research on CNET. Thanks for your reply.

I was about to post basically what Bluekhaki said.

I should also mention I voted for samsung before reading the thread so I assumed you were talking about higher end samsung or panasonic.

IMO the plasma is a better picture but the 70 LED is no slouch. The choice is really between 64"-65" great picture or 70" really good picture.

If you want an anti-reflective filter on the tv you will need to go with the samsung 6500 or higher or the panasonic st or higher. It helps a bit with reflections. The motion comment is a good heads-up, there's a comment recently that a poster had the 70"aquos and couldn't see the football when watching a game, traded for a plasma and all is better. See post #6922 in the VT50 owners thread.

I ended up going with the panasonic 65vt50 and have been very impressed so far.
