Wow! You're making some nice progress. I haven't visited your thread in a while. Good thing I checked in. At this pace, you'll be done in a few weeks. wink.gif

It's amazing how much faster builds are when it's your third time through it. I learned how to tame my OCD and know when to express it.

Seeing the pace of progress with my own project and how some of the other builds around here are inching towards completion, I'm incredulous at your pace of progress.

Far from being an expert, but my non-refundable $0.02 would include definitely considering in-wall speakers with your layout.  They are designed to have the plane of a wall all around them from the get-go.  I, too, have always thought that traditional in-room speakers needed some room behind them and around them to sound best.  But admittedly this is with 2-channel sound.  I suspect the rules of the game may be much different for multi-channel surround sound like this.

And as far as screen size/seating goes, I've crunched the numbers frontwards, backwards, and sidewards and it seems that for most circumstances using a 2.35/2.40 screen, the first row can be placed up to 1 x the screen width.  That puts you about the limit of what "they" say viewing angles should stay under.  In test driving a couple of actual theaters myself, I'd have to say that this was at the limit of where I'd want to be myself.  I have planned my space to be just about 1 x the screen width away so we'll see if I made the right call in a few months (I hope)!

Good luck and keep on truckin'!

Thanks for chiming in. I am certainly going with in-wall speakers as I've purchased them and they are getting installed tonight smile.gif I'll have pics when complete.

As for screen width, yeah I know i'm going to be pushing the 1x mark. I'm buying a few yards of cotton to make a temp screen this weekend and testing size with an older projector that I have.

I want to watch a few complete movies at that mark and see how I feel about the difference sizes.

Thanks for the kind words!

Ha! I assure you I'm not cheating but my wife would like it that way. She wants her husband back. The tough part about it is I can't work until 8pm after I help put the kids down. Really limits the amount of work I can get done in a week.

No problem. I'll try to keep it updated as much as possible.

I didn't get much done last night as I only had a couple hours.

I mounted the projector outlet (inlet).

I also mounted the speaker frames and speakers

Break-in time. I'm hoping to get 20 hrs on them by tomorrow so I can really judge what they are starting to sound like. Recommended break-in is around 200 hrs though so it may take longer to get a good idea of the sound.

Amp arrived. Supposed I should build my subwoofers this week. I plan on cutting all my MDF at the same time so I'll cute the subwoofer boxes, columns and wall pieces this week.

This build going at a great pace.

ScAndal, Your speakers look very nice. How do they compare price/quality wise to Triad InWall Silver series or RBH SI760?

That's a good question. I'm not sure I ever got the price for any of the Triad Silvers. Do you know what they run?

The Sunfire Trio CRW-3 MSRP for $1100 each and the center channel is $1350 MSRP

I got a pretty good deal and paid almost half of that. I'm still breaking them in but the sound pretty amazing already without carpet or wall treatments smile.gif

ScAndal, thanks for the details. The local installer has Triad InWall Silvers in his own home theater and speaks very highly for them, I can PM you the prices if you need them though I like the ribbon speakers you got. Can you please PM me the details on pricing and the dealer you used?

Thanks smile.gif

Those speakers look nice. Lets us know how they sound too! I have a Triad setup it a media room right now.

Also, is the cut out in front wall for your subs, didn't see you mention this is you thread.

I'll let you know when I get a bit better setup on how they sound. The front wall cutout is intended for the subs. I had some room in the next room to bump out, but not enough to bump out the L/C/R. I'm going to place the two 15s there and if I need, add more subs to the back wall behind the 2nd row seats.

ScAndal, thanks for the PM, I will look into the Sunfire option, the speakers look great, will wait for your feedback once you complete your setup.

I am still debating on the InWalls I should get for my theater build. Here are the options I had in mind:

- Triad In-Wall Silver 4 LCR (3), Triad In-Wall Silver Surrounds (4)
- RBH SI-760 (3 fronts), RBH SI-744 (4 surrounds)
- Episode ES-HT900-IWLCR-6 (3 fronts), Episode ES‐700‐IW‐6 (2 Pair)
- And now Sunfire CRW3 series

Any input welcome smile.gif

I have heard great things about the Triad and RBH. The issue with in-walls is the fact that its really hard to find places to actually listen to them.

Have you found anywhere nearby that has any of these avail for listening?

I concur.  That has been my biggest challenge as well.  Very few places will have any actually installed to listen to.  And those that do have some in-walls installed (i.e. Magnolia) are not done in any sort of optimized fashion.

Triads get great reviews and Paul on the forum in the Triad thread is very helpful. He is the most honest ex-non-biased rep I have seen. He will tell you other speakers will work better or Triad will work better. I asked him about Episodes one time, and he said there is no comparison to Triad. I have never heard them myself, but his opinion stopped me from purchasing what I thought was a good deal.

PS: there is a set of Triad InWall Silvers on Audiogon for a great deal...just and FYI (not mine)

Sorry for off topic post. Still waiting on sun fire review wink.gif

Well things have slowed down a bit this week as I was waiting for some materials/parts to arrive.

I attached 1" OC703 to back wall and built the frame wall. Goal-posts set with 1x4 FJ board in 'L' pattern.

I also built a 134" 2.35 screen using kiln dried 1x4" and created a shoe molding lip in order to wrap spandex. Spandex should get here this week so I can finish the screen.

Goal Posts! Looking good. Are you planning to hang some black fabric behind the screen to eliminate reflections off of the 703? and paint the frame?

Thanks Big!

Yep false wall frame was painted last night and i'm waiting for my fabric to arrive today and I can staple that up across the entire back wall. I'm still debating on whether I should paint my screen frame as well. I haven't received the spandex layers yet to test that out.
I think you will find that the the light wood will show through spandex. So everything behind the fabric needs to be black.

I'm not up on the Spandex approach, you said layers?
I went with painting my frame black as it was going to have black velvet and linacoustic behind it so I wanted it all uniform. I can vouch that you can't see the framing.

Yes, the spandex is too thin for a single layer and the amount of light loss.

Thanks, I did the same thing. It only took a few minutes so I just coated it while I had it out.
