My mother recently had both of her old CRTs recently die. Based off an earlier thread I picked up the Panny 50U50 for her bedroom.
I now have to figure out what to do about her living room. Either way the purchase will most likely be local from Best Buy.
Option 1 - I move my Panny 58V10 over to her house. I then upgrade to a 65" Plasma.
Potential Issue - I don't have the original packing materials since BB took them when they dropped off the set 2+ years ago. Also i don't know if I will be able to stand it up in her SUV, Hyundai Veracruz, so getting the TV over there may be tricky. I might have to rent a cargo van to move it.
This then leaves me with the decision of what TV to go with for me. Upgrading to a 60" seems like a waste so I would probably go for the 65". It looks like Panny options are getting tougher to find locally through BB. The ST is sold out and I don't know how the GT50 compares to the V10.
In my house our viewing is mostly FiOS via TiVo and the occasional DVD from Netflix from around 12-15 feet.
Option 2 - I just pick her up a 60" for her living room.
The only downside is I don't get to upgrade. I wasn't necessarily in a rush to upgrade though since I have been happy with the 58V10. I also don't know if I want to spend 3k on a TV which is what it looks like it cost me for something like the 65V50.
This then leaves me with the option of what 60" I go for her living room. Some of the IR reports for the Panasonic sets concern me a bit just because I don't know how her viewing habits are.
She is similar in that she also has FiOS via TiVos though I will have to push her to HD over SD now. She never watches movies though. She doesn't have any direct sunlight issues but she does tend to leave the lights on when she watches and does a good amount of daytime viewing.
I guess in short how do the current Panasonic sets like the GT50 compare to the 58V10.
For her I would probably set a budget of $1600 or so since she really doesn't need any advanced features and wouldn't use them. I just want something that looks good and she will be happy with, but not something she needs to worry about babying.
Thanks guys.
