The sub appears to only work on stereo sources when ExtStereo is selected

Anyone know if this receiver can handle a 60ft HDMI cable output to a projector?

Seems dicey if the receiver merely passes the signal verses retransmitting it.

This is pretty common if your R/L speakers are set to large.

This is to the question of why the sub is not playing with stereo / 2 channel sources.


Pretty common if the R/L speakers are set to large. Mine works in stereo / stereo / with wo channel soruces. Is this super high rez 2 channel? May not work then I suppose.

So... From my PS3 on Bluray discs.... I choose lossless from the disc menu and I seem to be getting high quality 5.1 PCM? Is this the best I can do from a PS3? I seem to remember some limitations with lossless and the PS3?

I just installed yesterday, I am getting the kinks out. I am going to try my 1st 3D BD tonight.



I got the scaler working, but it seemed better straight into the projector than using the scaler in the AVR. I need to evaluate this some more. I only ran about 15min of a bond off of laserdisc.

Hi - I just bought a Pioneer 1022 and so far it's really good. All my devices (cable, ps3, Xbox) are going through hdmi then the single hdmi out to my pioneer Kuro. My problem is that the tv must be on to have any audio through the speakers. I would like to play the cable music channels or music from the ps3 while the tv is off. Any way to make this work? Thanks!

Thank you for your reply! But I'm having trouble finding where and how to make these adjustments. When I hit he Home/Menu button, there are only 9 selections and none will get me to where I can adjust the EQ.

I think you press Receiver and then EQ? I'll try it some time today.

OK, I just tried it. I could not figure it out.

Nice to know I am working as I should be with the PS3. No issues at all with 3D.... Last night I screened TinTin in 3D, it was so good I decided to give Avatar a shot afterwards.

TinTin my have the most impressive overall 3D picture quality out there in my opinion. Avatar still has an upper hand though with the 3D effect, I just can never get over how they get stuff to float around you in certain scenes.

Fun night in the theater with 3D for sure.

Might be display dependent some how? I turned my projector off last night and the audio dropped out for a pretty long moment but eventually did come back.

Hello, my first Post here, anyway, I have a 5.1 Pioneer, which I like from back in 2007, it's one of those Best Buy Packages and although I've been Happy with it, it doesn't have any HDMI Inputs or anything for that matter, no Video Inputs or Outputs and after getting a 320 GB PS3 Move Package for Christmas, I decided it's time to Upgrade and I've been looking at the 1022!!! I LOVE Pioneer, have had MANY Pioneer Systems over the Years, STILL have a Pioneer GR-860 Graphic Equalizer, not to mention, have had Pioneer Stereo's in most of my Car's, my Hot Rod in fact has a Pioneer DVD/GPS In-Dash Unit which I ADORE and EVERYONE is AMAZED by, especially at Car Shows and so on, so it makes sense for me to stick with Pioneer, but I dunno...? Like I said, I am Upgrading because of my New PS3, plus I do have a Wii as well and many older Systems, like a Dreamcast and Saturn, which I still Play, my TV is a Sharp Aquos and I have a Pioneer CD Changer and 1080P HD DVD Player, Xfinity and so on, so, this Pioneer seems like the Best Choice for me, but I did Read some Negative things, but, I'm not sure???

I am also gonna keep using my current Pioneer Speakers, I have enough and two Spare Pioneer's that I can use for the 7.1, but I am gonna get a Polk 10" Subwoofer and Polk Center Channel Speaker, but I have also been looking at a Harmon Kardon AVR 1700, because I have had Harmon Kardon Stereo's in a few of my Car's, plus my Uncle has one and it's Fantastic, but I heard the 1700 isn't any Good and I'm not sure there are a lot of Systems in that Price Range for me to Choose from???

I guess I'll stick with the Pioneer, I just Wish there were some Videos on YouTube of it Playing Music, like a DTS Surround CD, which BTW, the PS3 will Play if you Adjust the Settings the same as I did!!!

I like the AVR well enough. I scored mine Open Box on an Amazon warehouse deals, I simply put in an offer.

Anyone actually using it would have to rate it excellent for the money, I would think anyways.

One negative for many on it would be no Pre-Outs..... Pretty darn powerful though, especially if your setting your speakers to small.

You have to give up some thing, for all the other capabilites of the thing, at this sort of price point. I'm a little old school. I really like the thing is decently heavy.
Not that weight is the end all, be all assesment of equipment. But, the weight felt old school type heavy to me, I had a better perception of the 140watt per channel spec.
even though I admit, a perception built mainly from illogic.

My first real budget system after comming from much higher end setups over the past 3 to 4 decades.

However, I did Read on Amazon some recent Reviews, stating that this Receiver doesn't last long and Shuts itself Off, so is yours fine and all??

I'm Worried, because this will be On almost ALL THE TIME, lol, Heck, my Sharp Aquos is On 24/7, even while I'm Sleeping, because I have a Brain Tumor and need the Sound and all to Sleep well, honestly, I can't believe my HDTV hasn't Died yet, but it's just as Good as ever, GREAT actually, in fact, the Picture has gotten Better with Age, lol, but that's mainly due to my PS3... I have an XBox 360 S as well, but I don't like to Talk about it, lol.

Like I said, I already have a really GREAT Pair of Pioneer Bookshelf Speakers, but the Satellites I have left over from my other Pioneer, say on the back not to use with any other Receiver, which I have never seen or heard of before, so I am a little Concerned now, because I can't Afford any more Speakers??

Also, yeah I am Disappointed about the no Pre-Outs, because I can't Hook Up my Equalizer, but honestly, I only kept it to Watch the Display, lol, yeah, Stupid I know, but I like Spectrum Analyzer's, Blame that on Knight Rider, lol, but I have a Spectrum in my Hot Rod, a K.I.T.T. Scanner as well behind the Grille, lol, I dunno, I just like those kinda things, but I guess I can just Connect the EQ to my HDTV then and to my Pioneer CD Changer, that will work I suppose...

Okay...looking for some help...how can I play my radio and still have the Sat/Cbl signal pass through to my TV? I want to watch my hockey games from my satellite but listen to the play-by-play call from my AM radio station. Is this possible? Thanks.

I read through this thread and there have not been a lot of failures. Leaving it on 24/7 aye? I think you will be the authority on longevity with the model. I fall a sleep with my projector on failry often. So mine can be on for several hours straight some times. I am running below 4 ohms on my surrounds. I have a long room with 3 rows of seating and I run two sets of speakers in parallel for the 5.1 surrounds.

I Ordered the Pioneer, a Polk Subwoofer and Polk Center Channel Speaker, I'll be using the rest of my Pioneer Speakers, but I have to Order some more Monster Cables and an Ethernet Cable.

Also, yeah, lol, I guess I will be the Authority for how long this Receiver last, lol, but during the Spring and Summer, I go Camping and spend A LOT of my Time at Car Shows and Meets, so nothing will get used then, lol, it's when I'm Home and during the Winter that my HDTV and everything is always On, lol.

I wonder if my Sharp Aquos Supports the Audio Return Feature??

Now I gotta figure out how to Sell my other Pioneer, because I don't Trust ebay...?

Any fix on this, same issue here. Hooked up at father in laws and no sound. Able to run speaker setup and get test tones, but no sound from ipad input..

Anyone else have an occasional HDMI handshake issue when switching channels of differing resolutions on their cable box? Maybe once a week (using DirecTV) I switch channels and it loses the signal. I can hit the jump button, go back to last channel that was showing, then jump again, and it finds the channel the second time. Very odd as it always (thankfully) fixes itself. Only correlation I've noticed is going from differing resolutions. It has never happened to me going one same resolution to another.

Still very pleased with this (for the money) so far. Drives my Polk Monitors very well, surrounds sound good, and the Ext. Stereo setting sounds GREAT for PS3 Rocksmith. I see people say 7.1 is overrated all the time, like it's something only for high end systems but even just for stereo listening it has a great effect IMO.

I have a question on speaker settings. I recently upgraded to this unit from a five or six year old Pioneer receiver. Can't remember the model number, but one of the features it supported was the ability to setup the "A" and "B" speakers differently for different inputs, and the receiver would remember the settings. For example, I could have the tuner play through both A and B so I'd have music inside and out on the patio, but when I switched to TV I could set it to have the B speakers turned off and only use A (the neighbors don't need to hear what I'm watching on TV). The receiver would remember these different settings for each input and switch the speakers automatically as I changed inputs. I can't seem to figure out how to do this with this new 1022 model. Is the ability to have the unit remember differents settings by input a feature that got dropped?

Guys, can you connect pa speaker like this to this receiver? If so, how many and how?

Is there a list somewhere of compatible Android devices with the Control App???? I don't really want an iPad so I don't want to buy some tablet only to find out it is not compatible with the Control App.

Just bought one and can't get the standby pass through to work as well as the video screen for making adjustments from my remote. I have hdmi inputs running from blue ray player and cable box to the receiver and an output from the receiver to the tv. Am I missing something or does this frustrating waste of an afternoon inspire me to send it back to Amazon?

Hit the receiver button on the remote(below the.power button) and press the Home menu key. Lower left of the cursor compass.

HDMI setup is #6 in the menu.

Same thing has happened to me, but only once. Was marathoning LOTR while sick and thought maybe it was a heat issue...but felt top of unit and it was just warm, at most. Like you, non-moving set up, good clean hook ups. Mine also just turned itself back on and went right on chugging. So, no solution here, but you aren't the only one.
